“In response to today’s decision by Events DC and the International Spy Museum to cancel their plans for a relocation of the Spy Museum to Mt. Vernon Square, the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. (HSW) wishes to clarify that this will in no way effect the continuation of the Society’s current programming and public use of the Carnegie Library. The Society looks forward to working with its main partner, Events DC, with our neighbors (old and new), and with the growing portfolio of community partners to create a new vision for Mt Vernon Square. Regardless of what the vision may include, the Society reaffirms to the local community that the Carnegie Library will continue to serve as home to its exhibit galleries, Kiplinger Research Library, historic collections, and offices well into the future.
“The Historical Society has 85 years remaining on our lease at the Carnegie Library,” said Julie Koczela, Chair of the Society’s Board of Trustees. “This building has a magnificent history that fits perfectly with our mission and provides the Society with a central base to operate our library as we to continue to develop exhibits and programs that are free and open to the public. We intend to remain at the Carnegie Library as Events DC explores a restoration strategy for this beloved historical building.” (more…)

Back in September of 2013 we learned that the redevelopment project in Mt. Vernon Square would include “the relocation of SPY from its current location at 800 F Street, NW, to the historic Carnegie Library”. No longer the case. Washington Business Journal reports:
“The International Spy Museum and Events D.C. have scrapped plans to redevelop the historic Carnegie Library in downtown D.C. into a new home for the museum and a visitors center.”
They also note that The Spy Museum’s current lease at 9th and F St, NW ends in 2017 and the museum is now actively looking for a new space.

“Detectives from The Metropolitan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division have announced an arrest has been made in connection to an Armed Robbery/Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun.)
After a joint investigation was conducted by MPD and the FBI, 27 year-old Robert Russell of Northwest, Washington DC, was arrested on Friday, September 26, 2014, at approximately 7:00 pm, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant charging him with Robbery while Armed and ADW (Gun), in connection to the robbery that occurred on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, in the 300 block of K Street, NW.
Subsequent investigation led to Mr. Russell being charged with Robbery while Armed in connection to the robbery that occurred on Thursday, September 25, 2014, in the Unit block of New York Avenue, NE.
MPD and the FBI continue to investigate similar cases that Mr Russell is believe to be involved in.”

“On today’s date, at approximately 10:35 am, a complainant was shot once during a robbery. The complainant received a non-life threatening wound. The incident occurred in the 300 block of K Street, NW. Look-out is for a black male, light complexion, thin build, approximately 25 years of age and approximately 6’ to 6’1” tall. He had full dreads and facial hair and was last seen wearing a grey scarf, grey shirt and blue jeans.

What’s the story with the Living Social building at the corner of 7th & New York? I walked by it tonight and it’s empty now. I thought that corner building was gonna survive the reconstruction of that block – did plans change? I haven’t heard anything about it.”
Back in Jan. we learned Living Social was closing their cool events space on F Street. Anyone know what’s happening with the building at the corner of 7th and New York Ave, NW?
