If intangible arts is reading this I hope he is sitting down. He is the only one I know who was as mesmerized by these pigs as I am. They are located at 1864 Monroe St, NW.

As I was making my regular rounds in Mt. Pleasant I was stopped dead in my tracks when I noticed the for sale sign was under contract. (Listing price was $835,000, for the curious you can see lot of photos of the interior here.)

So the only question I have is – will the new owners keep these beloved pigs? Or will they go the way of the knights…?

This rental is located at 1417 Chapin Street, NW:

The Craigslist ad says:

“Beautiful two-level condo with two balconies. Two bedrooms and one bath with hardwood floors on main living area, beautifully updated kitchen with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. Fireplace in living room with balcony. Spiral staircase leading up tp upper level with two bedrooms, balcony off of second bedroom and updated bathroom. Washer and Dryer in Unit! Does $2495 sound reasonable for this 2 bed/1 bath?

I just noticed that Color Me Mine closed up at 2439 18th St NW. Their Web site says:

And another salon is coming to 3114 Mt. Pleasant St, NW.

Washington Post reports:

“One person was killed and several others were critically injured early Wednesday in an apartment building fire that shut down 16th Street NW, a major commuter artery, during the morning rush, officials said.

Firefighters were called to the blaze, in the 3100 block of 16th Street in Columbia Heights, at 3:45 a.m., said D.C. fire department spokesman Pete Piringer. They escorted dozens of people out of the eight-story building, carrying some through smoke-filled hallways or down ladders. One person jumped from an upper story and was gravely injured.”

TBD reports:

“The deceased is reportedly a 38-year-old man, AP reports. D.C. fire department spokesman Pete Piringer says two people are listed in serious condition and another three are listed in critical condition, including a child. Piringer says 125 people have been displaced and were given shelter at a nearby recreation center.”

They have photos here.

“Dear PoP,

On the beautiful side of DC living, here’s a sign from a yard sale in Mt P ~

They had a good amount of interesting books, household items, things from afar, etc.

(Somehow I think it would have diminished the positive effect if they had cheap crap.).

Hasta la Mt P fest!”

“Dear PoP,

Just got back from what I thought was Pfeiffer’s only to see a new sign above the shop and in the door for “Old School” Hardware. I have noticed an increase in stock the last few times I have been in there and of course the new fancy credit card machine. Thankfully, the same friendly and VERY helpful people seem to be there. Wondering if your readers have any more info…”

The store’s new Web site, Old School Hardware says:

“Phrases like “Bon Voyage”, “Winning Lottery Ticket”, and “Yes, I would really like to go out on a date with you,” evoke a certain amount of excitement and spark one’s imagination.

We think “Hardware Store” fits into this category quite well.

Our store has the products you need to do everything from your “Honey Do” list to your home renovation project. With a little bit of planning, we can bring in almost any product that you might need.

Please let us know what we can do for you and thank you for shopping with us.

-Katie & Phil”

We’d be hearing for years that Pfeiffer’s, located at 3219 Mt. Pleasant Street NW, would be selling. Glad to see they stayed a hardware store. I once wondered if neighborhood hardware stores were doomed. But with the survival of Pfeiffer’s (with their new name) plus Fragers and others – DC’s hardware store’s seem to be holding tight.

Thanks to the reader for sending all the info. Anyone notice any differences at the new Pfeiffer’s – Old School Hardware?
