“Dear PoPville,

My roommates and I found a bright yellow/green parakeet at 16th and Oak St NW (Mt. Pleasant/Col. Heights). It appeared to be in good health, no injuries. We managed to get it into a bag and took it to the Washington Humane Society at 1201 New York Ave. NE. It’s hanging out there for now, awaiting its owner. Would you be able to post something to try to alert the owner? Much appreciated! I’ve attached a photo (post-rescue).”

Hope it’s not this guy again!

Last night we learned of the abrupt closure of Tonic and Last Exit in Mt. Pleasant. It didn’t take long to learn who’ll be taking over the space. I started getting scuttlebutt about a new spot called Goodall’s Bistro but The 42 got the full scoop:

There’s no set menu at this time, but it will be vegetarian and vegan friendly. Here’s a bit more information via an email form the owner:

“Goodall’s Bistro will feature a seasonally rotating menu of the freshest foods from locally sourced organic farms, and free range ranches in the Mid-Atlantic region. We will serve dinner seven days a week from 5-10pm, and brunch on Saturday’s and Sunday’s from 10am-3pm, with the option of expanding our services down the line.”

Still sad to lose Tonic but looking forward to learning more about the new bistro!

“Dixie New Orleans Chaos with the Soggy Po Boys where New Orleans Jazz is served messy.

Show: Palace Productions presents: Soggy Po Boys Band
Date: May 22nd,
Time: 8pm
Ticket price: No Cover
Venue: Haydee’s – Mt. Pleasant.
3102 Mt. Pleasant St., NW

The Soggy Po Boys were born at the old location of the Barley Pub in Dover, NH on Fat Tuesday of 2012. The group was formed as a smaller Hammond organ group with two horns and had planned to play roots New Orleans funk and brass band music but misunderstood the gig’s timeline and ended up a set short on material.

For the unexpected last set they gathered around the piano and played acoustically, focusing on New Orleans early jazz standards and spirituals. They haven’t looked back, performing in this way weekly and all over the Seacoast with a full horn section and a sousaphone.

Check them out at http://soggypoboys.com/ , which has their new CD “Seedy Business” for sale as well as other information.”

“Just came across this scared little one in the little park at the corner of Mt Pleasant St and Park Road (by the tree on the NW corner of the Park). Poor thing is wet and docile. I assume he belongs to someone close by. Called humane society and they only have one officer for the District today. If anyone knows the owner, I’m at 202.270.1266.”

@CraigPlazure tweeted us the sad update last night:

adam_express

Back in March we first learned Adam Express intended to close but those plans fell through when a buyer backed out. For whatever the reason the closure seems permanent now so let’s wish the Baes a peaceful and happy retirement:
