“Thanks for your concern and all the help from the posters. We have been staying with friends in Petworth since the fire and will be going to an insurance provided apartment tomorrow. We have given statements to the fire investigators and hopefully they will be able to determine the cause of the fire. I can only imagine what those without renters insurance are going through but the community has come together to help make things a bit easier. Unfortunately no phone calls have been returned/and no statement has been made from the management company/owners of the building (just goes to show you how concerned they are). We hope all the other residents are doing well. Thanks for the coverage, and thank you again to the community.

Love

From an email I received:

Victims of the fire at 3145 Mount Pleasant Street have been relocated to the Best Western Hotel on South Capital and I Streets SW through Saturday night. City officials and community workers are helping to find semi-permanent housing for the displaced tenants until the building is refurbished and they can move back in. We’ve been in close contact with Yasmin Romero at the tenant association and other workers orchestrating relief efforts. Below are the latest needs – Yasmin and the other tenants are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from the community: (more…)

“We are homeless.

Love,

the former residents of 3145 mt pleasant st. washington, dc

(it burnt down)”

WTOP reports on the 5 Alarm fire. My thoughts and prayers are with the residents.

Updated: More info from resident: “i was living on the first floor, the fire started in the basement. i saw the fire started on some machinery, after i put a extinguisher on it, it kept re ignighting, by the time the fire engines showed up, the first basement was out of control.”

The place looks great when walking by but I’ve heard tons of mixed reviews. So what’s the real story here – worth checking out or not?

What do you think about this crazy stairway in the front of the house? I’m not quite sure why but it makes me think of an insane asylum…or an institution of some sort.

Mt. Pleasant sure has some dope sky homes. Check out the front view and a ridiculously cool weather vane after the jump. (more…)
