UPDATE: Milk Bar Opening at The Wharf Delayed – Logan Circle Location Opening “Later this year”

“Milk Bar, the award-winning bakery and dessert brand founded by two-time James Beard Award-winning pastry chef and CEO Christina Tosi, announces its second location in Washington, D.C. will open at 12 p.m. ET on Friday, February 23 at The Wharf.

On opening day, Tosi will be on site from 12 to 2 p.m to welcome the neighborhood into the newest Milk Bar store. The store will offer $1 soft serve all day on Friday, including its iconic cereal milk® and chocolate pretzel flavors. If you were excited about Player’s Club after seeing the coming soon signage you’re gonna flip your lid when you see inside. Last we heard, one of the owners (Ian Hilton) told us:

“6 pinball machines. Also skee ball, b-ball, bubble hockey and like 20 old school video games including my personal favorite, Gauntlet.”

Well my friends that translates far better in photos.  And maybe it’s because I’m 43 years old and this whole place reminds me of my youth but, I think you’ll agree that this place is fan-freaking-tastic.  If all goes well they will open in a week or so – but March 1st at the very latest.

It’s unassuming at first, and oh so fitting to be in the basement.  You are first greeted by a wall of record covers:

“Just got a ticket at 14th&S NW for crossing against the signal on foot. (Flashing red hand). Officer said enforcement due to uptick in pedestrian deaths in 2017 compared to 2016.”

Ed. Note: I had no idea you couldn’t cross when there was a flashing red hand – can that be right? You can’t start crossing when it’s flashing but you can finish crossing, is that it? When I see a flashing hand but still have a green light I just double time it. Crazy. Anyway, heads up and be safe whatever your mode of transport.
