Dear PoPville,

I’ve noticed the infamous homeless guy who was living on the outside of the run down laundry building is no longer there. Do you think they could be ready to start construction on the rumored restaurant there? Additionally, there’s no trespassing signs on the window and PepCo was at the building two weeks ago doing work.

I also noticed the homeless man, Michael and things had been removed:

In early Feb. we learned that a Voluntary Agreement has been signed paving the way for construction to begin on the new restaurant by Stephen Starr to be called Parc Deux. Looks like things are indeed moving forward. They’ve also applied for an outdoor seating area. We’ll revisit as construction progresses.

Located just off of my favorite circle in DC, Kingman Place is a charming one block long street that feels tucked away despite being surrounded by such amenities as the Studio Theatre, Whole Foods, and Caribou Coffee. It doesn’t seem that long ago to me that real estate agents were advertising listings in this neighborhood with “Fresh Fields coming soon!” (Maybe it was Whole Foods by then, but I called it Fresh Fields until the mid-2000s anyway).

Continues after the jump. (more…)

Yesterday I requested folks send some nominees for Danger Watch to princeofpetworth(at)gmail. I got lots of good nominations but one that jumped out at me was Parc Deux because I had been emailing ANC2F02 Commissioner Nick Barron for an update on the old Shirt Laundry space at 14th and Q St, NW in Logan Circle. I first shared scuttlebutt that a Stephen Starr restaurant was interested in this space back in May 2011. In Nov. 2011 a liquor license application was listed for Parc Deux to become

“a French restaurant, bistro, and café serving classic French cuisine for breakfast, lunch dinner and brunch.”

To make a long story short, Commissioner Baron answers that a Voluntary Agreement has been signed. This paves the way for construction to begin soon. Stay tuned.

And in completely unrelated news – these pigeons on the church behind the space were freaking me out:
