1318 14th St, NW

Back in Nov. 2011 we learned that the Buffalo Exchange clothing store would be coming to 1318 14th St, NW in Logan Circle between the Logan 14 Spa and the coming soon The Pig restaurant. There had been very little visible progress since then but I’m happy to share a tweet sent by WBJ’s @NeibsWBJ:

“Building permit issued for the Buffalo Exchange store coming to 1318 14th St. NW.”

I imagine we can now expect serious work to begin soon.

For those not familiar with Buffalo Exchange:

“Founded in 1974 in Tucson, AZ by Kirsten and Spencer Block, Buffalo Exchange now has 41 operating stores in 15 states. Local customers can buy, sell, and trade clothing and accessories at their neighborhood stores. Each store’s ever-changing inventory includes designer labels, vintage, jeans, leather, current basics, and one-of-a-kind items, as well as brand-new merchandise and accessories.”

1833 14th St, NW

We first heard about Bar Pilar’s expansion plans at 1833 14th St, NW back in Dec. 2010. While they already reopened the first floor last month, the second floor expansion was finally revealed this weekend. And I’m happy to report it looks awesome.

I was told that the second floor will primarily be used for dining and the menu will be served late night until around 1am.

Lots more photos after the jump. (more…)

Thanks to a reader for sending a link to a Craigslist ad that says:

“HUNTED HOUSE, Vintage and Mid Century Modern, located at 1830 14th Street, NW for the last five years is counting down to opening day on the “hip”, “hot” H Street NE corridor in the next few weeks! Stay tuned for more details. In the meantime, we’re still bringing the Mid Mod to our apartment-style showrooms on 14th Street, NW. Check out our earlier listing for what’s new this week and come help us clear out as we get ready to bring you more in a shiny BRAND NEW, BIGGER space on H Street, NE. Hit “H” for HUNTED HOUSE!”

I spoke with owner Mark Johnson on Sunday who confirmed the move. He said they’ll still be open at 1830 14th Street, NW (2nd floor) for two more weeks and will be open at the new location at 510 H St, NE by May 1st. In addition to being bigger, a major advantage of the new 510 H St, NE location is that it has a ground floor entry.

Hunted House was an early “neat neighborhood find” that we talked about here back in Dec. 2007. For those who’ve never visited, their Website says:

“Hunted House is a case of accidental birth! Its two founders, Mark and Ed, came at it from different angles. Ed, an interior design professional has a true-love for furniture having sold it for many years.

Mark, who has always loved Art Deco and Mid Century furniture and has collected a house full of it over the years, knows that there are many others who love vintage furniture and want to find it at affordable prices. With his good eye for period pieces as many customers have noted, and Ed’s knowledge of furniture and design, the two started buying select vintage furniture, particularly Mid Century…”

You can take a look at some of their goods here.

The reader who originally wrote in said that, if true, this would be a huge gain for H Street. I couldn’t agree more – this is a fantastic score for H Street. First HR 57 moves from 14th St, NW to H St, NE and now Hunted House – could this be the beginning of a trend developing?

It’s great to see this former horse’s ass award nominee get fixed up at 1832 14th St, NW just south of T Street. I peeked in the window yesterday and the first floor which will be home to a rug/carpet store looks nearly ready:

Back in mid-Jan. 2012 we learned the second floor will be home to a pizza spot by Edan Macquaid. Def. still looking forward to that.

14th and S St, NW Looking North

File this under phenomenal news:

The matchbox Food Group is excited to announce their latest expansion plans with a second location of Ted’s BULLETIN. The new Ted’s will be located in The JBG Companies & Grosvenor America’s The District development located on 14th Street NW between S and Swann Streets NW, with an expected opening date of late 2012. The restaurant will be larger than its predecessor on Capitol Hill with around 180 seats as well as an expanded bakery– perfect for producing Ted’s famous homemade Pop-Tarts and a menu of unique gourmet donuts! Rest assured, the new Ted’s BULLETIN will stay true to the 1930’s art deco diner setting that made it such a success.

Ted’s BULLETIN, which first opened on 8th Street SE in July of 2010, quickly became a DC favorite. Serving adult milkshakes and homemade “Pop-Tarts,” put them on the map as a must try restaurant. With a new menu just launched, including a family style pasta night on Mondays, Ted’s is sure to win big with diners, all year long!

Ed. Note: Also the owner of Proof and Estadio will be opening a SE Asian restaurant on the other side of the building at 14th and S St, NW.

1324 14th St, NW

I’m noticing signs for Cas Riegler all over town. Check out what they have in store for 1324 14th, NW:

Their Website says:

The urban quality of life at 1324 14th, NW, soon to be Lionel Lofts, will be unmatched for this scale of product. Lionel Lofts is located only 2.5 blocks from the metro, steps from the Central Business District (CBD), and in the midst of the most vibrant retail, shopping, nightlife and neighborhood amenity corridor in the City – which includes over 266,000 sf of retail (Whole Foods, Vida Fitness and a variety of restaurants and nightlife). Buyers will literally live in the most ‘walkable’ neighborhood in DC (see Walk Score of 94 out of 100).

There are only five units in what will be an immaculate restoration of the old Lionel Trains store. Each unit will feature a private outdoor space, high end finishes, gourmet kitchens, and double height space with lofted bedrooms.

Nice, though it will be tough to say goodbye to the Lionel Trains sign:
