Back in March 2012 we got confirmation that Ted’s Bulletin would be opening up a 2nd restaurant at 14th and Swann St, NW. We are now one step closer to adult milkshakes. And I’m having a hard time containing my joy reading a description of the place on their liquor license application:

“Upscale 1930’s Art Deco Diner offering comfort food and breakfast all hour of operation. Occupancy Load is 191.”

And on a side note: I wonder how long the Swann Auto Sales lot across the street from the future Ted’s will remain a lot before getting bought and developed?

Back in mid-May The Pig opened up at 1320 14th St, NW in Logan Circle. Starting Saturday they’ll be open for brunch:

“Chef de Cuisine Garret Fleming is serving up fabulous traditional brunch dishes with a contemporary spin including Smoked Ham Benedict, with buttermilk biscuit, duck egg, and poblano hollandaise. Other signature dishes are the Gnocchi & Eggs Bacon Lardon, or Huevos Tomatillos, with eggs, smoked chorizo, lentils, house cheese, on a corn tortilla.”

1409 Playbill Cafe closed at 1409 14th St, NW at the end of Sept. 2011. Lalibela Ethiopian Restaurant currently located a couple of storefronts away at the corner of 14th and P St, NW will be moving into the former Playbill space.

I’m told Lalibela will be vacating their current location next month. Stay tuned to see who moves into that space.

Back in Nov. 2011 we learned that the Buffalo Exchange clothing store would be coming to 1318 14th St, NW in Logan Circle. We’ve now learned an opening date – June 16th.

From a press release:

Unique resale clothing store plans to open on June 16 in 14th Street Corridor

Called “a favorite of hipsters” by the Washington Post and “the cream of the crop of vintage stores” by NBC Washington, Buffalo Exchange brings the original concept of buy-sell-trade clothing to 14th Street Northwest with the opening of its first store in Washington, located off Logan Circle at 1318 14th Street NW.

Store hours will be Monday-Saturday 11–7 and Sunday 12–6.

The newly restored historic building will feature an interior with high ceilings, rustic looking flooring, preserved original brick walls and vintage display items scattered throughout. The store will offer 10 roomy, well-lit dressing rooms for women and men — plus two buy counters, where customers can sell their clothes for cash or trade.

Buffalo Exchange is unique because clothing and accessories are bought, sold and traded locally with store customers. Used clothes can be traded for any item in the store, including jewelry and brand new clothing. The ever-changing inventory includes designer wear, basics, vintage, jeans and one-of-a-kind items.

Thanks to all who sent word about the letter posted on the door of Mid City Fish Market at the corner of 14th and P St, NW:

The date of the letter posted says June 7th. On the evening of June 7th there was a fire on the third floor of this building. It is not clear if the letter was posted before or after the fire.

I can’t vouch for the food but I will miss their fish signs if they do close. More info as it becomes available.

Thanks to all who’ve sent word. One reader sends photos and writes:

“Not sure what happened but pretty crazy fire above Mid City Fish Market at 14 and P in Logan around 8:35.”

More info as it becomes available.

Yesterday readers emailed and tweeted @PoPville:

“DCgov cut down3 mature trees from N side of 1400R NW in name of “responding to resident concerns about security”.

I took photos yesterday afternoon and saw three trees were removed on the north side of the 1400 block of R St, NW near the alley. I emailed MPD who confirmed the trees were removed for public safety although I do not know if it was a result of “resident concerns.”

This year, on May 6th there was a shooting on the 1400 block of R St, NW. And on May 7th a reader shared a a horrible mugging incident that occurred by the alley on the 1400 block of Q St, NW.

Do you think the removal of these three trees will increase the safety on that block?

Here’s what it looked like before from Google street view. It is the first three trees on the right hand side of the photo near the alley:
