Not sure if you’ve run across this new rental property in that huge mansion on Anna J. Cooper Cir. Below is the Zillow result I found it listed. That house still continues to fascinate me.”
Awesome, I’m a huge fan of Anna J. Cooper Circle. We actually looked at the neighboring house in early Nov. which has some good history. Zillow lists the house for rent at:
Address: 1903 3rd St NW, Washington DC 20001
For Rent: $2,350/mo
2 Beds, 2.5 Baths, 1,100 sqft
It must be split up because that home looks way larger than 2 beds.
On the 600 block of Florida Avenue there is a dyanamic community arts organization called CapoeiraDC (www.capoeiradc.com). CapoeiraDC is a community-run nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering the Afro-Brazilian martial art of capoeira in the nation’s capital through classes, community outreach and access, and youth development. Capoeira is a unique blend of martial arts, dance, and music that evolved from the vibrant Afro-Brazilian culture.
We are the largest and longest standing capoeira contemporânea academy in the DC metro area. In addition to to offering seven adult Capoeira classes and two youth capoeira classes to nearly 100 students, we are committed to making Afro-Brazilian arts accessible to the community by offering free Capoeira and Samba workshops several times a year and teaching free Capoeira classes at afterschool and summer programs at the “Capoeira Spot” and in the Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights, Petworth, and Anacostia neighborhoods.”
Sounds great. I’m sure lots of folks have walked by this space dozens of times. Very cool to learn more about it. You can find more info here.
“Were you at the Howard Theatre? Did you perform there? Were you in the audience? Waiting by the stage door? Skipping school to come to a matinée? Come to the DC Music Salon at the Watha T. Daniel Shaw Neighborhood Library on Wednesday December 8th and bring your photos, posters and memories. Dr. Bernard Demczuk, Howard Theatre Community Committee chairperson, and Blair Ruble, author of “Washington’s U. Street: A Biography” will lead an informal discussion. There will also be a screening of the documentary, “Howard Theatre: A Century In Song” and James Brown and the Famous Flames performance from the 1964 T.A.M.I. Show. The Watha T. Daniel Shaw Neighborhood Library is located at 1630 7th St NW near the Shaw/Howard University Metro Station. The event will begin at 7 p.m.”
Any idea what’s going on with the storefront on the south side of the 500 block of Florida NW? Looks like a big renovation (really nice job w all the windows).”
The renovation is amazing. You can see what it looked like back in Sept. here. At the time we heard from a commenter that it may become, “a coffee shop and a restaurant, upstairs they are building two apartments.”

I’ve been keeping my eye on these properties located at 621/623 Florida Ave, NW (near the Howard theater also getting renovated) for quite a while since they are such beautiful buildings. I was happy to see serious renovations have started to take place. Anyone know what the plans are?
I know there are lots of fans of Ethiopian restaurant, Zenebech Injera, located at 608 T St, NW by Florida Ave so I wanted to share news that they’ve applied for a liquor license. Zenebech had also briefly closed last summer. Anyone been back recently?
I also wanted to share the news that the LeDroit Park Civic Association has put together a survey soliciting names for the new community park coming to 3rd and V Streets NW. I’m voting for Ledroit Park Park. You can fill out the survey here.
I always enjoy spreading the word when a new restaurant opens up but it brings me even more pleasure when the proprietors are super nice people. Allow me to introduce the Ali-Aziz family from Trinidad (the Island not the neighborhood) who were so nice and welcoming to me. While I wasn’t able to grab a bite when I visited the food did smell great. And the space itself looks good too:
And while they have a nice bar set up they don’t think they’ll have their liquor license until the end of Nov./early Dec.:
