“H Street Festival is one of the most anticipated and highly attended single day festivals in Washington D.C. The festival is 12 blocks long and has 15 staging areas that are diversely themed and programmed to target the different segments of audiences. The staging areas feature music of different genres, dance, youth based performances, interactive children’s program, fashion, heritage arts, poetry and many more.
The festival started as a 500 participant bloc party more than 19 years ago, it has now grown into a 150,000 participant event. The change is immense and the impact is lasting. By using the arts as a principle motivator of the festival, it has proven the arts can be a valuable agent in impacting economic growth. The festival also has a direct impact on reducing commercial building vacancy rate on H Street Corridor from 75% to under 5%. H Street Festival has successfully utilized arts as an engine for the growth for the historic neighborhood.
We have activity stations that focus on participatory artwork, informational stations that promote arts education, and exhibitor stations that showcase D.C. based artists. The depth and range of arts presentations are incomparable to any other festivals.”

“Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today sued the owner and manager of Delta Pearl, a large affordable apartment building located at 1400 Florida Ave NE, for extreme neglect at the property that is actively endangering the health and safety of tenants. An investigation by the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) found evidence of severe and pervasive housing code violations at the building, which is owned and managed by developer Buwa Binitie through two of his companies.
“The conditions at Delta Pearl are shocking, as has been ownership’s refusal to promptly address them,” said Attorney General Schwalb. “This extreme level of disrepair and neglect, and the health risks it poses to tenants, are unacceptable. We are suing to force Binitie and his companies to make critical safety repairs and to do so immediately.”
“Just two short years ago, I helped cut the ribbon on 1400 Florida Ave NE and welcomed neighbors into a beautiful space that was funded with tens of millions of dollars in tax credits and public financing. What has happened since then defies reason,” said Ward 5 Councilmember Zachary Parker. (more…)
