Last month we learned that H Street was getting it’s first E-Cigarette store and Vape Lounge – Dumbcloud Vapor on the 400 block of H Street, NE. The 600 block is getting one too. This is the former home to (ironically?) Aspire Health Care. District Vape’s twitter page says:

“Soon to be open. D.C.’s premier full service vape shop. We carry a complete line of E-juices, starter kits, tank upgrades, RDA’s RBA’s clones & authentic mods”

DC’s first vape lounge, DC Vape Joint opened in Adams Morgan underneath the Pharmacy Bar in March.

From Toki Underground (1234 H Street, NE):

Mark Ladner, executive chef at Del Posto in New York City, is taking over Toki Underground on November 6, 2014 with delicious bowls of his 100% gluten-free pasta. Thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign, Ladner and his team have set off on a tour to bring PASTA FLYER to cities including Cambridge, Philadelphia, Providence, and now Washington, DC. The gluten-free pasta “marries traditional Italian culture with Japanese ramen efficiency” and will be offered for both lunch and dinner from 11:30am until close. Also joining Ladner in DC will be Del Posto’s executive pastry chef, Brooks Headley, with his notoriously delicious veggie burgers.”

“Dear PoPville,

We live in H Street, NE and this [Monday] afternoon, a woman campaigning for a DC Attorney General candidate knocked on our door. My wife was home but did not answer as she was nursing our 2-month-old. The campaign worker remained on our porch for a few minutes and sorted through some paperwork. Clearly oblivious to my wife sitting just inside the window, the woman then reached down, picked up our older son’s bag of sidewalk chalk, and nonchalantly placed it in her own bag. She then left and headed down the sidewalk towards the next house. My wife ran outside with the baby and demanded the chalk back, and the campaign worker silently returned it.

That an adult would steal a bag of sidewalk chalk is mind boggling to say the least. But to have it stolen by someone campaigning for the DC Attorney General is simply stunning. I do not share this as part of a political agenda, as up until this afternoon I had really not given any thought to this particular race [though I certainly have now].”

I seriously don’t mean to be flippant nor am I trying to start a blame the victim post here. However, I do think it’s important to remind some folks that it is not a good idea to walk around late at night with phones, ipads, kindles or other electronic devices out. You are distracted and a target and MPD continually tells us thieves are looking for this. I’m not suggesting people be terrified and cower in their homes but it is important to not get complacent and exercise street smarts as well.

From MPD:

“At approximately 12:55 a.m. [Saturday], a citizen was walking in the 1400 Block of Maryland Avenue, NE with his Kindle Fire in his hand. He was approached by 3 black males who struck him in his head and robbed him of his Kindle Fire. The citizen was treated by medics on the scene and no arrest have been made at this time.

S1 was described as a black male in his early 20’s 5’8-5’9 in height. S1 had dreadlocks and was wearing a hat and blue jeans.

S2 was described as a black male in his early 20’s 5’8-5’9 in height. S2 was wearing a Holly Hanson Jacket

S3 was described as a black male in his early 20’s 5’8-5’9 in height. S3 was wearing a T-shirt and sweat pants.

The First District Detective’s Office will be investigating this case.”
