Sally's middle name

From an email:

“We’re really excited to be trying something new that will potentially improve quality of life for our employees.

I did just notice that there was quite a bit of heated debate going on in the comments so I wondered if you mind clarifying one point – we are paying people a much higher hourly wage than the $2.77 minimum (over 3 times the minimum), and have a few people on salary. We are also offering retirement plans and hope to offer health benefits in the future.

Also – We’re starting brunch service this weekend! Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 10:30am – 3:00pm, and will (fingers crossed) hopefully have beer & wine by the end of the week.”

Very neat detail about Sally’s Middle Name from the Washington City Paper:

“At their new H Street NE restaurant, Sally’s Middle Name, owners Sam and Aphra Adkins have decided to forgo the traditional gratuity system. Instead, an 18 percent “service charge” will be automatically added to every check. That money will be split evenly between front and back of the house employees.”

cops

A friend of mine took this photo of an X2 bus this morning. Anyone else noticing cops riding along certain bus routes? Has this been happening a while or is it pretty recent for those who’ve also noticed it?

dog

A reader writes:

“My wife found this cute little what I think it is a Yorkshire Terrier (or maybe a Tea Cup Terrier?) around noon today on 11th St. NE between H and I streets. We are going to bring him to our vet later today to see if he has a chip, but I was hoping you could post this pic on popville and see if anyone was looking for him. They can contact me directly at [email protected] . He has a collar on, but there are no tags. I’m sure someone is missing him, or will be.”

UPDATE: Back home!

A reader reports:

“You posted a stolen package video that was captured by my home surveillance cam. I received notice today from the U.S. Attorney’s Office that a man was charged with second degree theft and is due in court in early June. DC MPD Officer Naples followed this through and was fantastic — big props and thanks to him!”

Sadly though another one caught on film and tweeted to us today:

“man steals package from our porch on 9th st between k and i st NE. It may be the same man who struck here.”
