“The artists at the newly-opened KLAGSBRUN STUDIOS in Georgetown are going a step further in celebration of the season of light!

RADIANT RAINBOW RACER , a 20 foot-tall animated light sculpture has been installed at 1662 33rd Street and is delighting passers-by every night this month and into January. Although not included on the list of 9 official Georgetown GLOW sculptures, the artists of the Tuesday Night Group decided to create a sculpture that expresses the joy of drawing the human figure, something that they have done every Tuesday night for 33 years. From a press release:

“Five cutting-edge, growing retailers are giving Georgetown a shot. EastBanc Inc., Jamestown LP and Acadia Realty Trust announced today a curated collection of storefronts that are entering into the D.C. market and opening their first showrooms in Georgetown’s shopping district. Up-and-coming brands, Illesteva, State & Liberty, AUrate New York, Rapha, and MacKenzie-Childs, have picked Georgetown as the ideal home to reach D.C. trendsetters, area fashionistas and visiting shoppers. These in-demand, emerging merchants have chosen our nation’s capital to expand their merchandising enterprises outside of their home operations headquartered in New York, Michigan and London. All of the lease agreements, with the exception of State & Liberty, may extend indefinitely beyond their initial term and could be a permanent addition to the Georgetown shopping scene.

The following was written by PoPville contributor David McAuley, founder of Short Articles about Long Meetings.

A proposal to make on-street parking more difficult for non-residents brought local businesspeople and residents out to the meeting of Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 2E/Georgetown Monday night (December 4).

ANC2E Chair Joe Gibbons characterized “the meat” of the proposal: for every local block that is part of the District’s Residential Permit Parking (RPP) program, one side of the street will be reserved for local residents and guests. The other side will be “for anybody”. As it stands now, any Ward Two resident with a permit can drive to Georgetown and enjoy the benefits of on-street parking under the RPP program.

The proposal brought local businesspeople out to oppose the plan, which they claimed would drive away customers. (more…)

3050 K Street, NW at the Waterfront

Whoa. The big news about Guapo’s coming to the Orange Anchor space in the Georgetown Waterfront comes from the Washington Business Journal:

“The restaurant will also add some new dishes — including some from the Rincon family’s home country of Colombia — and upgrade the plating and some other aspects to fit in with the Georgetown scene. They’ll install a ceviche bar similar to one they tested out in their Fair Lakes location that has been doing well, Rincon said.

But it will still be a casual restaurant; there will be no tablecloths, and families will be welcome.”

Last we talked about Guapo’s, for a hot second it looked like they’d be moving locations in Tenleytown but they ultimately decided to stay in their original location on Wisconsin.

Updates when they get closer to opening the new Georgetown spot.

Ed. Note: There are no good orange crushes in D.C. NONE.
