I (late 20s woman) was walking down Q St NW in Georgetown (Monday), minding my own business, when a guy parked on the side of the street called out to me asking if I could come over. This is a big deal.
I can only guess that new NPS leadership didn’t like the scale of change in the pipeline for mile 0-1 on the towpath. The NYC firm that led the renovation of the High Line was attached to current plans to upgrade aspects of user engagement with the C&O Canal.
It struck me as a bit of overkill at the time.
A resurgent, preservationist vibe might be in play here.”
