There are few things I like more than Bourbon and Coffee so I was intrigued when I spotted this sign at 2101 L Street NW. I though I knew most of the coffee spots around town but this looks awesome. Their Web site says:

“Bourbon coffee is an international brand of specialty coffee and the first retail brand to originate from Africa. Our retail brand is built around the philosophy of producing great coffee from “crop to cup.” By building the brand in this manner we are able to directly impact the value equation for coffee farmers in Africa.

We will enter the international market with the goal of introducing fine coffees of Africa to consumers and promoting our mandates for the brand: Economic development, Sustainable Practices, Uncompromising Quality and Cultural Unity.”

You can see their menu here. They opened their first cafe in DC back in July ’09 and will be opening up cafes in NY and Boston soon. Any fans of the coffee and/or the cafe?

LiteStars will be located at 2101 L St, NW and according to their Web site:

The LITESTARS lifestyle understands that eating healthier and controlling portions have become a need. Our “functional foods” are created with the goal to improve your health and well-being, beyond nutrition.

We offer customers easy-to-understand nutritional cards, which list the calories, grams of fat, cholesterol, carbohydrates, salt and sugars for each menu item. They follow the FDA-approved nutrient content guidelines.

Our mission: ”We pledge to provide our customers with healthier and tastier food choices prepared with fresh ingredients resulting in a meal with less fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates and sugar contents.”

Sounds a little bit too healthy for my lifestyle…

Remember the giant hole in the ground at Washington Circle by George Washington University? Here’s what it looks like now. Nearly finished. Last summer Mid-Atlantic construction wrote about the property at 2200 Pennsylvania Ave, NW:

“Ultimately, the project will include the office space and 84,000 sq ft of retail space. It will include a full-service grocery store, pedestrian plaza and 333 rental units.”

It will be interesting to see what retail is still planning to go into this space.

I know there’s mixed feelings about all glass buildings, but I think this one came out pretty well. What do you guys think – thumbs up or down?

Well this looks pretty cool. According to their Web site:

“Pangea is Greek for “all lands”. Pangeamarket.com, supported by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), brings together traditional high quality handicrafts made by artisans in developing countries. This is the first time that most of these products have been available for purchase online and in our Washington, DC store. Come in and purchase these beautiful, fair trade crafts, jewelry, home décor, accessories and more, learn about the products’ origins and know that your purchase helps create sustainable livelihoods for artisans in Asia, Africa and Latin America.”

The store itself is located at 2121 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW and you can take a tour here. The building itself (IFC HQ) is also pretty sweet:

Holy cow this is too good. Check out the video of the chef/magician here. At first I was just curious about the restaurant but now I’m dying to know if anyone has seen the magic. I’m sorry to say I was expecting Job from Arrested Development to join the video at any moment… Alright sorry I was fixating on the magician thing.

How is the food? You can see their menu here.

Primi Piatti is located at 2013 I St. NW.

I thought these were two cool examples from GW University. Above is from the Marvin Center:

I think the glass part looks fantastic and actually blends a bit with the concrete part. What do you guys think?

And not too far away is a pretty seemless brick extension:

The front part of the brick building above houses the GW Tonic.

This house is located at Snows Court at 25th Street NW.

The Craigslist ad says:

“Nestled into a quiet old-world court in the middle of the city, this cute small house is an easy walk to the main State Department offices, GWU, IMF / World Bank, Trader Joe’s, The Kennedy Center, several restaurants, coffee shops, and convenience stores, and walking distance to Georgetown, the Mall, and more. Street parking is readily available, and many nearby garages offer monthly rates. This house is ideal for those in town for a few weeks or months on business who are in need of a pet-friendly furnished place.
The historic two-story townhouse [about 600 sf] was built in the late 19th century and features modern conveniences.”

Do you think $2950 sounds reasonable for this unusual 1 bedroom?
