Pangea in March ’10

“Dear PoP,

I work right across the street from Pangea (I can see it right now) and it’s totally empty. Everything is totally moved out – they didn’t even have a going out of business sign – they were open on friday!! EVERYTHING is gone. and i mean EVERYTHING.”

Wild. We had just checked them out at 2121 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW last March.

Their Web site is no longer active as well. It previously said,

“Pangea is Greek for “all lands”. Pangeamarket.com, supported by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), brings together traditional high quality handicrafts made by artisans in developing countries.”

It’s too bad it sounded like a cool spot benefitting a good cause. Anyone know what happened?

I’ll be honest, this isn’t my favorite house porn post but I’ve always been curious to see what the homes inside this block look like. I couldn’t give up this chance. Thought others may be interested as well. So what do you think? It’s yours for $3,795,000.

As some of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, and located close to the popular and practical mode of bringing
goods into the city of Washington, both Foggy Bottom and Georgetown are peppered with teeny houses that
may have once housed nineteenth century laborers. When showing these structures to twenty first century
buyers, I often wonder what some of those early inhabitants would think of the current market for their houses.

Both 8 Snows Court NW and 9 Snows Court NW were on the market simultaneously and just happened to settle
on the exact same day. Although it was suggested in Good Deal of Not (GDoN) comments that it might not
be a bad idea to buy both and make one larger home, I think it’s unlikely that we’re seeing that, only because
the agents on the buying side of each transaction were different. I suppose it’s possible that someone used two
different agents to purchase properties immediately next to each other, but I’m still going with unlikely.

Continues after the jump. (more…)

Does $1225 sound reasonable for an efficiency here?

I knew when I read, “Designed by owner architect” that this was going to be an interesting one. What’s your favorite/least favorite part? The 3 bed/3.5 bath is yours for $1,795,000.

Late last week the GW Hatchet shared the good news:

“Sweetgreen, a popular salad chain, is one of three new leases confirmed to be part of The Avenue development lot across from GW Hospital.

Boston Properties, the developer of the mixed-use property at 2200 Pennsylvania Ave., – formerly known as Square 54 – has also signed leases with Citibank and a restaurant called Roti.”

I wonder if Roti is the same place that recently opened at 1747 Pennsylvania Ave, NW.

We’ve also learned that 2200 Pennsylvania Ave, NW will be home to a Whole Foods and District Table/District Burger, a “new Restaurant serving American brasserie fine dining menu with casual burger and shake menu.”

The retail space seems to be filling out nicely.

“FABULOUS and CHARMING home tucked away on quiet cul de sac in Foggy Bottom. Stylishly updated w/ newer appliances & utilities, home is perfect for individual seeking convenience of location & an immediately available turn-key home. Furniture conveys w/ right offer. Confidently selling ‘as-is’ w/ Home Warranty. MUST SEE – this is a rare gem of a find.”

You can find more info here and photos here.

This is a pretty wild 1 bed/1 bath house. I always thought 2 bedroom were the smallest houses out there. Think it’ll go for $419,000?

This is the new building off Washington Circle where we recently learned a Whole Foods grocery store will also be in the retail space. We judged the new building here.

But back to the restaurant, District Table/District Burger, according to their liquor license application this will be a:

“New Restaurant serving American brasserie fine dining menu with casual burger and shake menu. Seating capacity of 240. Total occupancy load of 290. Summer Garden with 50 seats and Sidewalk Café with 20 seats.”

Sound good? I’ll be sure to updated when construction is completed and they are closer to opening.

We judged the new building at 2200 Pennsylvania Ave, NW back in June. At the time we knew that a “full service grocery store” was slated for one of the retails spots. But now according to Bisnow we learn about two big signings – “Whole Foods (38k SF) and Vinson & Elkins law firm (around 75k SF).”

It’s no Trader Joes but a big score for Foggy Bottom residents.
