Looks good!

“Dear PoP,

There was a big Egypt protest/march earlier today – these pictures were taken around 3pm at the Q st bridge in Dupont. They were chanting loudly and a lot of cars were beeping at them in sync, people stopping to cheer, etc. Not sure what they were chanting (I thought it sounded like “go go gryffindor” but probably not. If only).”

Looks like a huge march. Did anyone else check it out? Do you happen to know what they were chanting? Was traffic insanely backed up? Thanks again to the reader for sending the photos.

Since I’ve been featuring lots of details from Corcoran St, NW this week – I thought I might as well through up a rental option as well.

This one is located at 1729 Corcoran Street, NW:

The Craigslist ad says:

“This gorgeous 2 Bedroom town home with parking offers an affordable way to live in style in Dupont. The house was recently renovated and has a great interior design, wonderful natural light, wooden floors, and a beautiful new kitchen with granite countertops and spacious cabinets. The main level has a large dining area with a spacious living room and a fireplace. The kitchen has all new appliances (large refrigerator, dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave). There is also a nice back patio for entertaining guests, barbecuing, or for enjoying time outside. Corcoran is a beautiful and quiet street.

A 5 minute walk or less to the metro and Dupont Circle. One-quarter block from Safeway and 17th Street restaurants/bars, shops, and a number of gyms. Whole Foods is also nearby.

The upstairs level offers two spacious bedrooms and a nice washer/dryer. Master bedroom offers a huge wall bookcase and two closets. Both bedrooms approximately the same size with great closet space and have excellent light/views. There are closets throughout the house and a large storage area in the laundry room.

2 Bathrooms — Full bathroom with tub upstairs, and beautiful half bath downstairs near dining room with collector’s sink.

Bring checks if you are interested, this place will go quickly – $25 application fee. One month’s security deposit is required.

One parking space included with rent. Central air/heat. Security alarm system optional.

Pet-friendly, but will be an extra charge of $40/month for small to medium sized dogs, and $25/month for cats.”

Does this 2 bed with parking sound reasonable for $3575?

Chartwell Grill is located in The Churchill Hotel at 1914 Connecticut Ave., NW.

“Chartwell Grill and Lounge serves Continental-inspired cuisine in the relaxed elegance of our dining room, as well as more casual fare in the intimate setting of the lounge.”

You can see their menu here.

Any fans or is this basically just for guests of the hotel?

“Dear PoP,

Pasha Bistro [1523 17th Street, NW] is closing.

They’re closing effective tomorrow [Tues.] and re-opening (presume same owners) in a month as “PIZZA No.17″ (b/c it’s on 17th street, get it?). Bummed, always a solid cheap meal in a pinch, right across the street, though a good pizza spot will do a killing in the area. One nice touch is that they’re offering $15 gift certificates to the new restaurant to loyal customers.”

You guys think a good pizza spot will do well here?

When I went on vacation in the beg. of Jan. I preloaded some posts and on some I accidentally kept the year 2010 so anyway all this is to say I screwed this post up:

“Dear PoP,

Penang on 19th Street appears to be closed for good. I walked by it at lunchtime, and it was completely dark. There’s no sign on the door (I didn’t have my camera with me), and one of my coworkers said it was completely dark before the holidays as well. I wonder if they never fully recovered after being closed for so long after the fire.”

I thought I had heard that Penang located at 1837 M Street NW would be reopening in Feb. Anyone else hear that?

We Judged them back in Aug. ’10.

But now I see that the actually space seems to be for lease. Anyone know the story?

Also I was surprised to see that the Starbucks that was located next door on 19th St, NW had also closed:

And of course next store to that the old Porter’s space remains vacant. Pretty rough patch for this section of 19th.

And further up the block will the former Olsson’s space ever get filled?

Thanks to a reader for sending the word:

“Just what DC needs, another Froyo place! Seriously?! It’s right on Connecticut Ave, NW in Dupont between Hillyer and R St., the old AT&T front between Comfort One Shoes and Ecco.”

Anyone ever hear of Yogi Castle?

After this, which do you think will be announced as the next ‘coming soon’ to Dupont – another frozen yogurt place, a burger place, a cupcake place or another Comfort One Shoes?
