1837 M St. NW

From an email:

“The brunch menu will feature an array of twists on Spanish classics like Butifarra amb Mongetes, housemade pork sausage, baby white beans, and a fried farm egg served with salsa verde, sliced red onion, and fresh cilantro; Tortilla de Setas, a rolled omelette with goat cheese and caramelized onions served alongside crispy fries and Catalan tomato toast; and Cochinillo al Horno, a fried farm egg over succulent slices of roasted suckling pig served with housemade potato chips and mojo rojo (a sweet peppery sauce perfect with eggs). The Nutella-stuffed Churros Rellenos sprinkled with cinnamon sugar are sure to satisfy that brunch sweet tooth, while a selection of cocktails, Spanish wines, and seasonal sangrias complete the experience.

Brunch hours this weekend will be noon-4pm, but moving forward the hours will be 11am-4pm every Saturday and Sunday.”

Boqueria is located at 1837 M St, NW. You can see the new brunch menu in PDF below:

2120 P St, NW

Yesterday afternoon I mentioned that Vento Restaurant had closed at 2120 P St, NW in Dupont. I got some very reliable scuttlebutt saying that it is going to become a Tex-Mex restaurant. I hear one of the new owners is from the popular Scion restaurant located next door. You can see Scion’s menu here. Sounds very promising. I hear they are shooting to open by mid-summer. More info as it becomes available.

Do you think Tex-Mex will do well in this space?

Thanks to a reader for noting that the Guitar Bar placard was no longer posted at 1216 Connecticut Ave, NW (above Shake Shack) in Dupont. The Guitar Bar was supposed to be an:

“Upscale tavern serving European sausages, hotdogs, pretzels and popcorns featuring DJ and background music. No designated dance floor – no dancing. Summer Garden with 210 seats. Seating capacity is 60. Total occupancy load is 330.”

Anyone know if plans have changed?

The Guitar Shop officially closed Oct. 31st, 2011:

Pizza no. 17 is located at 1523 17th St, NW in the former Pasha Bistro space in Dupont.

A reader writes:

“Their food is good — really good, even. Their brick oven pumps out awesome crispy/chewy pies, but they also back it up with killer salads and bruschetta. But I expected a lot more in the drink department from a place with an outdoor patio. No beers on tap, only a few bottles (though I didn’t see any local brews), and basically just rail liquor. Service is sub-par, though. Servers don’t seem to know anything about their menu or drinks, and their to-go orders take forever.”

Anyone else check them out yet?

1200 19th Street, NW

Back in early Feb. 2012 I shared some scuttlebutt that Taylor Gourmet (Taylor’s) would be moving into the former Mixt Greens space, which closed in Dec. 2011, at 1200 19th Street, NW (just north of M St.) I’m happy to report that scuttlebutt is confirmed. Walking by the space yesterday you can see that demo has already begun. If all goes according to plans they will be open by July.

With the recent opening of G Street Food nearby at 1120 19th St, NW, not to mention the Greek Deli next door, this section of 19th St, NW continues to be a solid lunch destination.
