From a press release:

Every month, Irish Whiskey Public House will highlight a different whiskey with Tasting Tuesdays, offering complimentary tastings for their featured whiskey for the month. This month the featured whiskey is Concannon Irish Whiskey. The tastings will be held every Tuesday in the Dublin Room, Irish Whiskey’s top floor, from 7pm-10pm. Product specialist will be onsite to guide guests through their signature flights and pairing options.

Concannon Irish Whiskey is a refined blend of malt and grain whiskeys, and is craft distilled for proper balance of character and purity and is matured in a combination of ex-‐bourbon barrels and Concannon wine barrels for a minimum of four years. With a full, clean taste delicately balanced between honey sweet, citrus and malt flavors, and a fresh oak finish, Concannon Irish Whiskey can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks or in a variety of premium cocktails.

Irish Whiskey Public House opened in January 2012 and brought DC a distinctive bar program, with over 50 brands of Irish Whiskeys, and an outstanding full menu of modern Irish American Cuisine. Irish Whiskey is located at 1207 19th Street, NW.

Speaking of sandwiches, back in Aug. 2011 La Tomate launched a Prosciutto Bar at 1701 Connecticut Ave, NW in north Dupont Circle. Their Website says:

The Prosciutto Bar at La Tomate offers a connoisseur selection of imported and domestic cured meats, cut to order on an artisanal hand slicer. Enjoy Italy’s finest prosciutto, like San Daniele and Prosciutto di Parma, as well as more curious flavors like our Prosciutto Iberico, imported from Spain. Vegetarian options including fresh and creamy buffalo mozzarella, a selection of cheeses balanced with homemade confiture, and mediterranean treats like seasoned olives are also available.

For lunch on the go, try our Prosciutto Bar Panini, a selection of sandwiches served on a fresh baguette, hand-sliced to order and available to-go daily.

Any fans? Anyone try the Panini?

Boqueria opens tonight in the former Penang space above Chipotle at the corner of 19th and M St, NW. I was able to attend an opening event last night and the place looks amazing. And the food is pretty amazing as well. I’ve rarely heard so many “mmmms” at an opening. You can see the opening menu here:

Boqueria_Dinner

And you can see some of their cocktails here.

Check out the scene as you walk up the stairs in the front door before you even enter the restaurant:

And once you enter:

The space is dominated by a huge square center bar but also has some great seating in the bay windows:

March 2012

I can’t believe it’s already been a year since a devastating fire closed Banana Leaves restaurant at 2020 Florida Ave, NW (just east of Connecticut Ave.) in north Dupont. I stopped in yesterday and spoke with the owners who said they are getting very close to reopening. It’s taken a bit longer than originally anticipated but remember how severely the property was damaged. I’m happy to report that they’ll be open “by the end of the month”.

Sweet!
