In mid-June we learned pedestrians would soon be able to cross Dupont Circle streets without waiting in the median, plus the 15th Street bike lanes would get repaved. Regarding the lights for pedestrians – I’m told they hope to synchronize the lights by the end of July. And with a bit more specificity ANC Rep @KevDC tweeted:
“Repaving of 15th St NW Bike Lane set to begin a week from Monday (7/22) #ANC2B”
“Dear PoPville,
The rat problem in Dupont Circle is the worst I have ever seen it in 20 years. This video was taken July 9th.”
Have others noticed an increase too?

Thanks to a reader for sending:
“New spot just opened up at 19th and Dupont Circle at 1506 19th St. NW next to Kramerbooks and a Starbucks. Not bad, like a Korean bibimbap chipotle. Nice patio will be a draw.”
A look inside from their soft opening party via Facebook:

On June 20th we learned about the man who had planted flowers at the Dupont North metro entrance. They are gone now. The Washington Post reported:
Metro tore out the foliage without waiting to solicit the neighborhood’s opinion, as it said it had planned to do.
“We want to meet with the community and see what the community would like. We will move forward with their wishes, as long as they are reasonable, sustainable and safe,” Michael McBride, manager of Metro’s Art in Transit Program, said June 21.
No meetings have taken place since then.
And in other Dupont North entrance news – the center escalator is closed until October:

Back in late May we learned Zeke’s DC Donutz had closed in Dupont. On June 14th a Liquor License application was posted out front for a:
“Small, low key restaurant with casual American Food. Large bottled soda selection and large selection of beer, wine and spirits. Total Load: 50, Seats Inside: 40.”
It is coming from the owner of Mr. Yogato. He tells me it will be a fun “goofball” spot and should be open around July 15th. Thanks to all who sent emails about the Thomas Foolery coming soon sign that was recently posted. One of the things the owners are doing are asking some “DC celebrities” for their favorite beers to be included on the list. They graciously asked me too. So free PoPville t-shirt to the first person who correctly guesses which beer I selected for my choice.
Their facebook page says:
“Mario Kart, 80’s toys, grilled cheese, ice cream sandwiches, and a whimsical bar scene…
On schedule to open the week of the 14th…”
Looking forward to seeing how the space turns out.

A new cafe/restaurant is coming to the former Cafe Green space at 1513 17th Street, NW. Ed. Note: The former Java Green space downtown will become a Retrospect Coffee and Tea.
A liquor license application posted outside 1513 17th St, NW says:
“New East London-style cafe restaurant and market serving coffee, sandwiches, salads, local produce and seasonal dinner plates. Occupancy load is 95.”
The space is located on 17th Street in Dupont between Mr. Yogato and Little Serow. The name is TBD. Stay tuned.

A few weeks ago I shared some scuttlebutt that a new restaurant from Jackie Greenbaum was coming to the former Cajun Experience space. Greenbaum is owner of Jackie’s in Silver Spring and El Chucho in Columbia Heights. Looks like it really is happening. Construction has started at the space and a permit posted out front lists permission given to “Greenbaum”:
