Dupont Circle Mansion, the Historic Patterson House, to be Converted into 92 Small Apartments, to be very Car-free Friendly

Interesting info about the transformation coming to the Patterson House in Dupont Circle from Short Articles about Long Meetings:

“More unusual are the promises to do the following:

designate a transportation management coordinator
provide a screen in a public area showing transit options
have a bicycle repair facility
provide free Capital Bikeshare memberships for non-bike-owners “for the initial term of the lease for the first five years the building is open”
have a minimum of 10 bicycle helmets on hand for resident use
give free membership to car-share services “for the initial term of the lease for the first five years the building is open”.”

Previously Urban Turf reported:

“The new plan for the historic mansion calls for just over 90 fully-furnished studios that would average about 350 square feet. The first floor of the mansion, located at 15 Dupont Circle NW, would become shared space for the building’s residents to offset the size of the apartments.”

On Friday @mikedeliso tweeted us the photo above and asks:

“@PoPville you have any idea what this balloon is? Shot from 20th and q at the DuPont north exit.”

And last night @chatelainedc tweets with an even eerier photo:

“I really want to know what the white circular thing w/ a suspended light floating in the sky over Dupont is. Anyone?”

We first started spotting these balloons back in 2009 and learned they were from Air Photos Live, a “Digital Design & Imaging Service”. Then last May we noticed more balloons over and around the arboretum. At that time we learned from the DC Office of Planning:

PoPville: The balloon was launched by Digital Design and Imaging Inc. to take aerial photos of the District’s skyline as part of the joint Height Master Plan the DC Office of Planning and the National Capital Planning Commission are conducting in response to a Congressional request. The Mayor issued a press release yesterday announcing the consultant teams working with the District on this study. DDIS is one of our consultants for the Height Master Plan modeling analysis. Flowers Return to Dupont North Metro – the Rogue Gardener or WMATA?

“Hey! Is the Dupont Circle rogue gardener back? @PoPville or is #wmata prettying the place up?”

In October The Post reported:

“After July, he said, “I needed artistic closure.”

That closure wound up being a merger of performance art, civil disobedience and fodder for a bunch of strangers to have an impromptu Sunday chat about government power and the need for unexpected beauty… a 6-by-6-by-4-foot boxlike artwork, which was covered with quotes about the July flower standoff.”

In August DCist reported:

“Michael McBride, head of Metro’s Art in Transit program, said the daffodil bulbs planted by Docter attracted rodents. Instead, Pachysandra will be planted and repairs will be made to the pavers beginning in two weeks.”

Hmm in the photo above it looks like more daffodils but since the original guy got closure, I’m guessing it’s either a copycat or WMATA reassessed the danger of daffodils.

Sauf Haus Bier Garten Taking Shape in Dupont – Will be Huge

When we learned the Sauf Haus Bier Hall + Garten was opening above the Dupont Shake Shack this summer I didn’t realize how big the garten part would be. Though we knew it would have a summer garden with 210 seats I had a tough time conceptualizing that space. But walking by it yesterday you can see how huge it’ll be – this has the potential to be very very awesome:
