Metro Station Manager Says She Can’t Help because “we would both get murdered”

“Dear PoPville,

I was riding the Red line Friday evening at about 4:30 PM. Between Dupont and Farragut North, a boozy smelling man sat next to me. He kept creeping closer and closer and eventually touched my thigh under a jacket in his lap. I immediately jumped up and started screaming. I asked some of the passengers what I should do and they just told me to call security. I got off at Farragut North and so did the perp. I ran to the station manager to report it since he was still loitering around on the platform, and was told that she couldn’t do anything to help and that if she went down to the platform with me “we would both get murdered”. So much for those “zero tolerance” ads…

I have two questions- wondering if anyone else was a victim this evening (suspect is heavy set Latino male in his 40s, wearing a hat, sunglasses, a white T-shirt and carrying a green jacket). Also wondering what the formal process is for filing a complaint with metro- I would like this incident documented and would like to report the station manager as well.”

The Mighty Pint “CLOSED due to venue maintenance until further notice”

“The Mighty Pint will be CLOSED due to venue maintenance until further notice. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted!

Feel free to contact us with any questions at: [email protected]. Thanks for your understanding. We have the BEST customers in the city!”

An email from Mighty Pint reveals a few more details:

“We are closed due to a major break in our mainline plumbing. We are unsure of when we will reopen due to the location, size, and construction needed to fix the break. We are working diligently with our Landlord to get the problem fixed as soon as possible. I’ll be sure to keep you and everyone else updated as we know more in the upcoming weeks!”

The Mighty Pint opened in the former Madhatter space on M Street back in 2010.

Books a Million to be replaced by Mrs. Greens Natural Food Store in Dupont?

Some incredibly big scuttlebutt was reported by Elevation DC earlier this week:

“The store’s website [Mrs. Greens natural food store] had (now removed) a “Coming Soon” page for a Dupont Circle location at 11 Dupont Circle NW, the office building on the circle’s northwest corner, with a retail component (where there’s currently a Books-A-Million) on the ground floor. That building was put on the market in May, and the retail space was put on the market around the same time.”

Mrs Greens website says:

“Mrs. Green’s Natural Market is a neighborhood store, passionately committed to clean, natural foods. Dedicated to health and sustainability. Devoted to customers who care deeply about the foods they eat.”

Back in January 2012 I wondered about the long term future of this Books a Million.

Which would you rather have in this location Books a Million or Mrs. Greens?

Veritas Wine Bar Closing in Dupont August 2nd

“It is sad to say that after almost 7 years, it is time for Veritas Wine Bar to say goodbye. Our last day will be Saturday August 2nd. Thanks to all our wonderful guests, amazing suppliers, winery friends, and our staff that have made it a great run. See you for a glass before we go!”

‏@barredindc hears it could be replaced by something called McClellan’s Retreat. Updates when more info is known on the replacement.

La Tomate Caffe’ now open in Dupont – Grand Opening with “complimentary and reduced price specials all day on Friday”

“Dupont Circle’s La Tomate has launched a new concept in its existing space on Connecticut Avenue. Family owned and operated since 1987, La Tomate inaugurates La Tomate Caffe’ adjacent to its current bistro – the first of many changes the restaurant will implement between 2014-2015. A Grand Opening of The Caffe’ will happen on Friday, July 25th all day. [Full menu here.]

Designed by Milan-based architect, Fillipo Taidelli, The Caffe’ offers Belle Epoque inspired atmosphere with Italian-flared menu items. Open from breakfast to late-night, The Caffe’ will serve brioche and sweets, espresso, coffee and fresh-squeezed juices for breakfast, artisanal-cut domestic and Italian charcuterie, assortments of cheeses, mozzarella varieties and light-fare. A vast array of packaged homemade gastro products, including fresh, signature sauces and soups as well as Italian delicatessen treats, cocktails, wine and beer will be available all day.

Sauf Haus Bier Hall Opens this Thursday in Dupont – Have a Look Inside

“Sauf Haus Bier Hall, located at the corner of Jefferson and Connecticut Avenues in Dupont, will officially open on Thursday, July 24, 2014. The upscale tavern features a 2000 square foot patio and two floors with full bars and event space.

Inspired by traditional German Bier Garten’s, Sauf Haus will offer 16 beers on tap, directly imported from Germany, and a variety of seasonal, local craft and European beers in cans and bottles. Sauf Haus’s bar program will also include specially designed cocktails, inspired by German influences. Focusing on simplicity and authenticity, the menu will include Bavarian style pretzels and Bratwursts, Frankfurters and Oysters starting in August.

The warm colors and décor of Sauf Haus are reminiscent of beer taverns in Germany. The hallways and stairwells feature old-fashioned black and white photos of German Bier Gartens.

Doors open on June 24th at 4:00pm.”

Mayoral Candidate Carol Schwartz Campaigning in Dupont

“Dear PoPville,

I shot this photo Sunday of Carol Schwartz driving a yellow Trans Am covered in her campaign posters, one of which — as you can see in the photo — was completely covering her rear license plate. She also sat in her car in a lane on 20th Street and Q where pulling over is not permitted. By doing so, she obstructed traffic on a busy day on in Dupont.”

Maybe not the most effective way to win over undecided voters…but I dig the ride :)
