On Monday, my wife had a bike accident on the corner of 16th and R (no villain, just a bag of dry cleaning got caught in her front wheel). My wife is fine, she went over the handlebars, chipped her tooth and got a black eye and a mild concussion, but nothing was broken.

But I wanted to say a public thank you to Ariel, a fellow bike commuter who stopped and called me from my wife’s cell phone and stayed with her until I could come pick her up. Getting that phone call was a scary moment, and it means a lot to see people willing to take the time to help each other out. I didn’t get her information as we were hustling to the emergency room, but wanted say thank you to Ariel on behalf of my wife and I!”

“The newly opened Ankara restaurant, a celebration of good food, hospitality and the heart of Turkey, will launch their new brunch on Saturday, June 13. Brunch will be a delicious celebration of the famous and beloved Turkish breakfast (kahvalti), traditionally one of the most important elements of Turkish cuisine. It will be served from 11 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Brunch is available for $37 per person, plus tax and tip. It includes tea, a traditional Turkish breakfast accompaniment, and a choice of Mimosa, Bloody Mary or cranberry juice cocktail with house vodka or gin.

Decedents Identified in House Fire: 1600 block of Riggs Place, Northwest

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have identified a decedent from the local fire that took place in the 1600 block of Riggs Road, Northwest on Wednesday, June 3, 2015.

The decedent has been identified as 24 year-old Michael Patrick McLoughlin of Northwest, Washington, DC.”

and

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have identified a second decedent from the local fire that took place in the 1600 block of Riggs Road, Northwest on Wednesday, June 3, 2015.

The second decedent has been identified as 25 year-old Nina May Brekelmans of Northwest, DC. An adult male decedent was previously identified in this case.”

My boyfriends apartment at 13th and Park NW was broken into over the weekend while we were out of town. They stole multiple items (a brand new MacBook Pro, two Nikon SLR’s, PS4, etc) including his prized possession, his Cinelli road bike that he has been building for years.
We had friends in the DC bike community post pics of it on all the groups/blogs and today got a message that a woman was trying to sell it in Dupont Circle.

Two AMAZING bike messengers recognized the bike and confronted her, taking this picture (thats HIS bike in the pic that she is holding onto, and this pic has also been shared with the police). She fled the scene when she heard police were on their way but we got the bike!!!

Wanted to share this with the community with the hopes of 1: finding this person 2: recovering some of the other items 3: maybe they know about other burglaries in the area. Any help would be amazing – if anything, just WATCH OUT for this person!!!!!”
