A couple of weeks ago we learned that the “Final service at Hiraya and Kayu on H Street will be on June 30.” At that time they said:

“This isn’t goodbye — just a pause. I’m already dreaming of Kayu’s next chapter in NW DC, where we can continue telling our stories with the soul and spirit they deserve.”

Crisis apparently NOT averted…

Comment from Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton: “Closing Dupont Circle for #WorldPride is an unnecessary affront to DC’s vibrant LGBTQ+ community, for whom the park holds historical significance.I’m disappointed that NPS is moving forward with the closure, despite MPD rescinding its request and my urging NPS to keep it open.”

“Dear PoPville,

You previously posted about the upcoming closure of Metro Supermarket in Dupont (2130 P Street, NW.) I guess that’s official now and the store is vacant today. Because everyone who worked at Metro Supermarket was so friendly, it really felt like part of the neighborhood and their final message on the door just seemed very genuine. I miss them already.

“I spoke with Chief Smith this morning and I’m glad to report that the decision to close DuPont Circle Park is being rescinded. The Park is central to the lgbtq community, and neighbors will be able to enjoy it this year for World Pride.”
