1801 L Street, NW

Thanks to Grant for the heads up. This is the former Au Bon Pain space that closed back in March. Their website says:

“When we looked around for inspiration, we were drawn to the richness, flavours and natural healthiness of Mediterranean cooking. We base our food around the Mediterranean diet, meaning our menu focuses on fruits and vegetables, whole grains, seeds and unrefined cereals. We look to replace butter with healthier fats such as olive oil, use spices and herbs instead of salt to flavour dishes and look to encourage more chicken and fish in our diets, with a little red meat thrown in for good measure. We do also understand the need to have a treat, be it a glass of red wine or something sweet, but only as a small part of our diet.”

Anyone take a taste overseas?

From MPD:

“We are working at least one, possibly four pedestrians struck by a vehicle at 9th and I St, NW. At this point, it doesn’t appear to be intentional.”

Update from DCFD:

963 Palmer Alley, NW

Washingtonian reports:

“Luxe downtown development CityCenterDC will lose one of its few local and independent businesses when RareSweets closes its doors this month. Owner and pastry chef Meredith Tomason says the bakeshop’s last day of business will be April 23.”

RareSweets opened up back in December 2014. Updates when we learn what becomes of the space. Any guesses on a replacement?

1895 L Street, NW

Thanks to Grant for sending the update that Poki DC had opening at 19th and L Street, NW.

Poki District opened their first store in Penn Quarter last year. Their website says they’re also coming to 1399 New York Ave – and other spots in Maryland and Virginia. You can see their menu here.

Update: It’s true!!

1827 M Street, NW

Thanks to Evan for the heads up. The owner of Parlay Sports Bar & Lounge confirms to me via email:

“The 1827 M street location is closed .. we will be relocating to NE and hopefully open by World Cup this summer.”

Parlay opened up in September 2014 in the former Malaysia Kopitiam space. Updates when we learn what becomes of this space and when we learn more details on Parlay’s new NE location.
