I know we have seen these horses before but I am incapable of passing these horses without taking a picture. This was taken Saturday on 14th Street near Girard. I just can’t get used to seeing horses in Columbia Heights. But I think it is awesome. I saw many kids going up to pet the horses. I think they make a nice bridge between the community and MPD.

It says something like ‘Congregating in a group of two or more for the purpose, sale or use of drugs is an arrestable offense and you can be imprisoned for no more than 180 days and/or fined $300.’ What the hell is this? Isn’t selling or using drugs always an arrestable offense? Or are they saying that they can arrest you merely for being in a group of two or more? No, you have to be using or selling drugs right? So why don’t they just arrest for that? I’m so confused.

I love the fact that the thief stole only one shoe. I’d say it is the silver lining of this whole story. But seriously, probably not a good idea to leave anything in plain sight in your car overnight that may tempting to a thief (and never underestimate what is tempting to a thief). The reader writes:

“Just want to let your readers know who live in or around columbia heights and park their car on Hiatt place that there have been a string of incidences where cars have been broken into and random things have been taken from cars. My roommate’s car was a victim and they stole a dress, one shoe (not the other that was right next to it) and her toyota manual (out of the glove compartment). The individual who broke the window also left a great big blood stain on her passenger seat, I guess they failed to get a rock or metal tube from the nearby construction. Police were already there by the time she got to her car but she was not the only one.”

This almost looks like Jerusalem stone. Pretty neat. When completed do you think it will fit in with the more traditional brick homes on the block?

I really like the tower up top. I wonder if it was ever functional. Or you know if you could at least put a seat up there and have a cup of coffee.

I’ve walked by Acuario dozens of times on 11th St. near Columbia Heights Coffee. It looks nice from the outside but I seem to recall reading somewhere that there has been some trouble outside the restaurant from time to time. Anyone know the scoop on this? Better yet has anyone eaten here?

The Villaggio, that’s got a nice ring to it. How much extra do you think that name costs? Sweet balconies at the Villaggio after the jump. (more…)

This one is super cool as it is actually a mosaic. Also I think it was done by many kids in the Ethiopian and Latino communities. Check out the full mural after the jump. (more…)

Thanks to a reader for pointing this out to me. Apparently it was mentioned in last Friday’s Post Weekend Chat. The Washington Post has a piece on the play by Patrick Crowley. The article says: “Patrick Crowley, a freelance theater educator and teacher at Bell Multicultural High School in Columbia Heights, developed the play in collaboration with the Young Playwrights’ Theater out of workshops and interviews with young, largely Latino members of Washington’s immigrant community.” Check out the Post Article for location and times.
