The flier says:

“”The Prasada” Beautiful 2br-2ba Condominium With Gourmet Kitchen, SS Appliances, Granite Counters, Pre-wired High Speed Internet, MBR Jacuzzi Tub, Washer/Dryer, Phone Entry System, Stylish Lighting, Gleaming Hardwood Floors And Much More. 3 BLOCKS TO PETWORTH METRO!”

You can find more info and photos here.

The photos look pretty nice. I’m not sure if I’d highlight a “phone entry system” though… But seriously what do you think of the condo itself? Does $329,000 sound reasonable for this 2 bed/2bath?

A reader sent in the above photo saying:

“Everything was going so well with the fountain. Until today…They talked about them being “ornamental trees” in the plans but these are just vile.”

We got a birdseye view of the Plaza last Monday. Does anyone know if these are indeed “ornamental trees”? If so, thumbs up or down?

“Dear PoP,

The Dance Institute of Washington’s open house on Saturday (Aug. 22) was one of the best events I’ve been to all year! Beautiful facility and really warm, friendly staff who all just seemed joyful to be there. It’s a sad odd fact of big city culture that we get used to the grand shows and forget that there is incredible talent level in the neighborhoods and studios. It is a different experience, but no less satisfying. Washington Ballet theater at the Kennedy Center is great, but to see these “pre-professional” students dance ten feet in front of you with no lights, staging etc. is pure unadorned pleasure. This was not your groaning dutiful ballet school recital ordeal – the average dancers were very good, and the best of them were actually exciting.

Besides the performances, they had classes open to all. How incredibly cool to watch Miss Paula take 15 random little girls and turn them into jazz dancers with a whole routine in 20 minutes. I am so not hip hop, but the three young performers/teachers in this class captivated everyone and opened a whole new perspective on the dance style.”

Meant to post this from Aug. 24th but it got away from me. Thought it was worth sharing. The Dance Institute is located at 3400 14th Street, NW across from the Tivoli.

Back in July we had a Dear PoP discussing this location that provoked 114 comments. A reader mentioned that the benches had been removed and I stopped by on Monday to check it out. Not a soul was around. I don’t mean to start the same conversation again, but do you think these benches shouldn’t have been placed next to a firehouse in the first place?

Seeing them removed made me think of the protest benches I posted about last week.

The Girard Children’s Community Garden Web site says:

“Summer’s winding down and we couldn’t be happier about our first full year in the Girard Children’s Community Garden. Since last summer, the concrete blacktop has been transformed into a floral oasis cared for and used by over 100 neighborhood children, and has quickly become a hidden gem to explore for the rest of the community. Dozens of kids, adults and families have wandered in to check on the progress of the tomatoes, corn and other produce while nibbling on freshly picked mint, cucumbers, squash and more.”

The garden is actually located near 15th Street. It looks fantastic. Lots of photos after the jump. (more…)

Lots of folks sent me emails about Saturday’s shooting on the 2900 block of 14th Street, NW. Most folks sent me a WJLA report that mentioned that the woman killed was an innocent bystander. About the saddest news possible. Thankfully a suspect has been arrested. From a Mayor Fenty Press Release:

“Mayor Adrian M. Fenty and Metropolitan Police Department Cathy L. Lanier announced today an arrest in the August 29, 2009 murder of 48-year-old Deborah Ann Brown.

Seventeen-year-old Devonte Carlton of the 1400-block of Girard Street, NW was arrested today and charged as an adult. Carlton is charge with Murder One While Armed.

Brown was shot on August 29, 2009 in the 2900 block of 14th Street, NW at approximately 9:30 p.m.

“Dear PoP,

This is one of the houses that was sold at auction (PoP Feb. 5, 2009) for $399,999. They just finished gutting it and the permit says it will be a single-family home – But I did get a laugh that the building permit is for “alterations and repair!””

This home is located at 3004 13th Street, NW (between Irving & Columbia Rd). Hipchickindc wrote about the home auction back in January. There was an update on some sales here. I’m definitely excited that these great homes are finally gonna get fixed up.
