From DC Brau:

“What is that in the air? Can you smell it too? It’s getting stronger. OH that’s right ……. it’s FREEDOM!

We are thrilled to announce the arrival of Smells Like Freedom, a collaboration brew from Oskar Blues Brewery and DC Brau Brewing Company. We couldn’t just choose any day to release a beer this monstrously dank, so we turned the amps up to ELEVEN and called on the luck of the Irish as well. Please join us on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th 2015, and be among the first drinkers in the city to imbibe a full pint of Freedom. To make things even more bodacious we are also celebrating the birthday of DC Brau Co-Founder and Head Brewer Jeff Hancock who is ACTUALLY born on St. Patty’s day! We have compiled a super Headie list of choice rarities and familiar favorites to round out this special tap takeover!

“Dear PoPville,

Just wanted to get the word out about a neighborhood crime. Between Sat 6pm and Sun 11am, my car, and at least one other, were hit with white spray paint. Our cars were parked on 16th St NW, near Kalorama Road. Thankfully carnauba wax, loads of elbow grease, and a razor blade were able to remove the white paint. Also, the police required an in person report as opposed to the busted window over the phone report that I have unfortunately, submitted twice previously.”

wallet

“Dear PoPville,

I lost my wallet yesterday afternoon somewhere between the Columbia Heights Giant and Oak & 16th St NW. I am still dumbfounded by the whole situation – my only theory is that I dropped it along the way and figured it out after walking 10-15 minutes. It did not contain any cash, but it did have my IDs, including my Driver’s License from Puerto Rico, which is very difficult for me to obtain a duplicate of, and the DC Resident ID, Health insurance cards, some credit cards that have already been canceled and some pictures.

The police has my info so they can turn it in at the station, send it in the mail or give me [Cristina María] a call at (202) 830-7425 for further options. I am also willing to offer a $40 reward if the wallet turns up as it was. The wallet is a Coach envelope wristlet with the C pattern. It is gray, with black Cs and black trim. I attached a photo of a very similar looking wallet – the only difference is that mine had a turn lock in the front where the metal seal is.”

parking

“Dear PoPville,

The 1200 block of Kenyon is a bit of a confusing, um, clusterpark, around the time that street cleaning starts up again. When street cleaning stops, we need to park on the south side of the street every day.

When it starts back up, we need to park on the north side of the street (across from Harriet Tubman) on Mondays. The signs are clear but take some looking at because they are also confusing in a way that only street parking signs can be.

So today, the folks correctly parked on the north side of Kenyon all got $100 parking tickets for parking there during evening rush hour even though the signs say “except Monday” on the north side and ban parking on the south side from 7 to 7 for Monday street cleaning.

The hope is that each person incorrectly ticketed will NOT have to fight their ticket. It seems possible that the mistake will register before the tickets actually register on the dmv site. That has happened to me when I was incorrectly ticketed before if you can believe that …. but there are many a tale of people getting fines doubled or penalties added when fighting illegitimate tickets…”

Ed. Note: I wonder if this is related to the pushing back of street cleaning to March 16th? Even so, this seems messed up.

A readers reports on twitter and via email:

“About 50 just went through Columbia Heights, south on 14th.

I did see two cops actually run out into the group, on foot, trying to make a grab for a couple riders. Not sure if it was heroic or dumb. The riders were all over the place.”

“OFFICERS UNDER ATTACK by ATVs, 2900 14th St NW, DC. MPD car damaged by ATV riders who tried to run-down police. Search underway.”
