From a press release:

“Ian and Eric Hilton are set to open their latest production, Bar Roubaix, a cycling-centric neighborhood bar and restaurant on December 8 in Columbia Heights. Located on 1400 Irving Street, N.W. Bar Roubaix will feature an eclectic menu of craft beers, European street food and pastries.

The concept of Bar Roubaix is inspired by the growing and vibrant cycling culture in the DMV. Named after the iconic city of Roubaix, terminus to one of the world’s oldest and most iconic races of professional road cycling.

The menu focuses on the cuisine you would encounter on the streets while cycling across Europe. It’s helmed by chef Rafael Nunez formerly of Busboy and Poets, and Eatonville. (more…)

1501 New York Avenue, NE

From the Columbia Heights listserv:

“I have been shopping for years at various MOM’s markets and find their wide selection and reasonable pricing to be unparalleled in providing organic foods for their respective communities. I have spoken with managerial personnel at their stores about the possibility of MOM’s opening a market in Columbia Heights. They suggested that we communicate our interest in having our own MOM’s market directly to the owner of the markets, Scott . I specifically asked if the owner might object to many individuals sending personal e-mails and was assured that, on the contrary, Scott would welcome such communications/requests. So, if you’d like to chime-in on this subject, send your thoughts to [email protected]

Just to add, MOM’s markets have an excellent selection of organic bulk foods but at prices far lower that those of comparable markets. They also function as what I would call a full-service market but with added features like Naked Lunch, their healthy, customized eat-in buffet.

Here’s hoping that this grass-roots effort will result in a community asset certain to enhance our quality of living in Columbia Heights.”

2601 Sherman Avenue, NW

The following was written by PoPville contributor David McAuley, founder of Short Articles about Long Meetings.

The owners of the City Corner Market (2601 Sherman Avenue NW) want to sell wine and beer. They are on a long trip through the DC government bureaucracy to make it happen.

On November 20, a committee of Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 1B/U Street unanimously endorsed an application for zoning relief which will bring the store one step closer to legal wine and beer sales. However, if the store gets the zoning relief that it seeks, it then must start from square one and apply for a liquor license from a separate DC agency. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

My bike was stolen from our front patio Friday afternoon, with a child seat on the back. I left it outside for a total of two minutes while I brought my son inside and saw it being ridden down the block towards the Kenyon and 14th St. intersection.

We rely on it to get to and from work and daycare, and would really appreciate people keeping an eye out. It’s really noticeable – a bright red-orange Marin hybrid with a gray and blue Thule child seat on the back. lmarski(at)gmail.com”
