From an email:

“Let us all forget about the year 2017 and toast to 2018 by drinking some delicious, high ABV beers! On Thursday, December 28th we are digging into our cellar and tapping 3 different vintages of Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout from 2015, 2016 & this year’s 2017 including Farewell Flights of all three. We will also be tapping the following brews from Goose Island: Lolita American Wild Ale with Raspberries, Noel Belgian Strong Dark Ale, 312 Wheat Ale and IPA. Representatives will of course be on hand to talk beer and hand out swag. So come out and auld lang syne-yourself up to ringing in the new year by drinking some boozy beers!”

All is not lost my Cleveland Park cousins – while Ripple was a big loss – Al Volo to the rescue!! I stopped by on Saturday and was told they soft opened Friday night (early word on the Cleveland Park listserve is that they are understandably working out a few kinks in service but the food was delicious and the folks were incredibly friendly, and they were kid friendly too.) I personally can confirm the kindness of the people there. It’s very easy to tell when folks are genuinely nice and I’m happy to say that was evident here. Also the space really looks terrific:

Al Volo’s current hours are 5-10pm Sunday to Thursday and 5pm to midnight Friday and Saturday.  In about a month they’ll be opening up for brunch and lunch as well as a to-go pasta bar.  Updates when that happens, in the meantime check out lots more photos after the jump. (more…)

Back in November we learned a Target would be replacing Petco in Sam’s Park & Shop. I stopped in on Saturday and was told that their last day would be January 22nd. I got 20% off cartridge replacements for my fish tank filter. Updates on Target as they release more info.

Ed. Note: Not all is dim in Cleveland Park, I’ll be posting about Al Volo‘s opening in a half hour.

But in other closing news – the Artisan lamp shop is also on the way out (thanks to Sarah and Lindsey for sending):

And the trail is especially awesome right now.

“The new 0.7-mile paved trail was constructed with repurposed material from the formally washed out Klingle Road and marks the first time the city has converted a road into a trail just for bicyclists and pedestrians.”

The trail was “constructed along the closed section of Klingle Road NW from just east of Cortland Place to one block west of Porter Street. The trail will continue along the Ramp to Beach Drive and will connect to the Rock Creek Park Multi-Use Trail. The project falls within the Cleveland Park, Woodley Park, and Mount Pleasant neighborhoods.”

Also take advantage of some Tregaron trails right off the main path: (more…)

Come for the movie, check out the Farmers Market (on Saturday), and then grab lunch and shop in Cleveland Park.

Spread the news and plan to support this fun new offering in the neighborhood.”
