On the heels of the Tino’s Pizzeria progress comes more pizza news for that neck of the woods. Thanks to all who messaged us the news from the Washington Business Journal that a Matchbox would be taking over the former Grilled Oyster Co. space. Grilled Oyster closed here in April after only 3 years. (more…)

Back in April we learned the new pizza spot coming to the old Chipotle space would be a Tino’s. A liquor license placard has now been posted:
“A new Retailer’s Class C Restaurant with a seating capacity of 49 and Total Occupancy Load of 60. Sidewalk Café with 14 seats.”
Tino’s website is now live too:
“Tino’s pizzeria concept was inspired by Chef, Logan Griffith’s pizza making passion and intrigue to create a traditional yet modern Neapolitan style pizza. The name Tino’s was inspired by Logan and wife Maria’s newly arrived son Constantino.”
Check out their menus here.
Good progress on the inside too: (more…)

Bummer from the Cleveland Park listserv:
“I was at Cafe Deluxe last night [Wednesday] enjoying $8 burger night when the server informed me that the restaurant will be closing in 25 days. Apparently the landlord wanted to increase the rent substantially. This is a big loss for the neighborhood in my opinion!”
Ed. Note: I’ve emailed Cafe Deluxe for more details but haven’t heard back yet. We judged them back in 2011. You can see their menu here. Updates as more is known.

Thanks to Tammy for passing on from NBC Washington:
“A 94-year-old woman is recovering after someone attacked her and took her purse in D.C.’s Cleveland Park neighborhood Monday night. [2900 block of Porter Street NW, 11:15pm]
The woman says she walked to an Exxon gas station nearby to ask for help, but an employee there turned her away.”
What. The. Hell.

The small format Targets have soft opened (with great fanfare and ribbon cuttings last night) in Cleveland Park and Shepherd Park. I stopped by Cleveland Park’s and like a moth to a flame I was guided to the glowing glory that is Target.

So basically you go down the escalators and to the right is a grocery:

And there is milk, oh yes, there is milk: (more…)

From the Cleveland Park Listserv:
“And sitting next to me on the bus, with his arms loaded with Rhodos. I wish we could chip in and get this guy a patch at the local community garden, anyone? It’s sad. He obviously likes plants and needs a better way of making a living.”
In 2013 the thief made it into the New York Times. In 2016 the thief may or may not have been arrested. In 2019 the saga continues.
