425 11th Street, NW

Back in July 2012 we learned that White Apron would be coming to the former Chapters Literary Bookstore space at 425 11th St, NW just south of E Street. Thanks to a reader for sending word of their soft opening last week:

“Opinions around my office are decidedly mixed! Some people liked their sandwiches, and others hated them. Only six options so far, but supposedly more coming.”

After the jump, have a look at their menu. (more…)

475 H Street, NW

From a press release:

What: Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken, opening in Metro Center, will host an inauguration-themed doughnut pop-up at local indie coffee shop, Chinatown Coffee Co. In honor of President Barack Obama’s inauguration, Pastry Chef Jason Gehring will serve ‘Obama Then’ and ‘Obama Now’ doughnuts. During his 1st campaign, the President was known to love chocolate covered caramels with smoked sea salt. It has been reported that he is now eating more healthily, but is known to enjoy trail mix. This has lead Chef Gehring to prepare two different doughnuts, which will be available during the pop-up:

· ‘Obama Then’: chocolate glazed doughnut with caramel drizzle and Maldon smoked sea salt ($2.25)
· ‘Obama Now’: oatmeal raisin doughnut with honey glaze and granola crumble ($2.85)

Additional doughnut varieties available for sale on both days include:

· Brooklyn Blackout – devil’s food cake, chocolate glaze, cookie crumbs ($2.50)
· Peanut Butter & Jelly – strawberry jelly, peanut butter glaze ($2.85)
· Crème Brûlée– vanilla custard, bruleed vanilla glaze ($2.85)
· Twink-nut – golden vanilla cake, buttercream filling, vanilla glaze ($2.50)

When: Friday, January 18th at 8:30 a.m. and Saturday, January 19th at 10:00 a.m. ***300 doughnuts will be available each day. Doughnut orders will be limited to no more than six per person, so that those who have waited in line will be able to order.

772 5th Street, NW

Dear PoPville,

I dined tonight at the new Absolute Noodle in Chinatown (772 5th NW) which opened Sunday. The menu was simple and the service was friendly. It has several delicious starters that range from 4-5 dollars. The menu has 7 preset signature noodle dishes starting at 10 dollars. There is also a pick 3 section where you choose your own noodle, meat, and veggies. In a few weeks they will be opening up a full bar. I really think this will be a great place to grab a low key dinner and drink after work with a small group of friends. They also offer take out and will be starting delivery soon. I would recommend this to others in the area.

726 7th Street, NW

Back in Sept. 2012 we learned that a Lime Fresh Mexican Grill would be taking over the Potbelly space at 726 7th Street, NW. A press release said:

“Potbelly will close its doors before the opening of Lime Fresh in mid-2013.”

I think this is the first time I’ve ever heard of a Potbelly closing. Anyway, seems things are moving forward with Lime Fresh as they’ve applied for a liquor license that says:

“A new full service restaurant serving healthy Mexican cuisine and beverages. Total Occupancy Load is 66; number of seats inside is 58.

You can see their menu here. We judged the Lime Fresh Columbia Heights location here.
