“The menu will feature authentic Southern cooking, heavy on fried chicken, pulled pork, fried fish, collard greens, baked beans, etc. Oldenburg says that the owners will offer live jazz in the former piano bar on the second floor.”

This is our first D.C. summer with a backyard/patio on Capitol Hill. We love our small yard, but as the weather warmed up, so did the pests. Lately, we’ve been dealing with an insane number of cockroaches (both German and American) that come out at night. We’ve put out roach motels, which fill up every night, but it obviously doesn’t address the problem. (more…)

Literally. Thanks to John for sending. Earlier this month we learned that after 15 years the 201 Bar would be closing. Updates when we learn more about The State Room. Particularly if it will be only a private events space or something more.

“Dear PoPville,
I am writing to make you aware of a sexual assault that happened to a close friend yesterday evening – Saturday, June 23 at 11:09pm at North Carolina Ave and 6th Street SE (by the Citibank). My friend was walking down 6th Street (towards Penn) when she noticed a man walking behind her, sticking close behind. The street was well-trafficked, so she continued on – staying aware of him. The man approached her and asked her for the time. When she looked at her phone to tell him, he put his arm around her neck and held a gun to her temple. Then, three other men approached and began to sexually assault her while saying they wanted her phone and purse. Finally, a man walked by (and continued to do so) until my friend asked for help. He walked her the rest of the way home. This incident will be reported to the police. That part of 6th St is a well lit and well-trafficked street in our neighborhood. My friend was sober and aware of her surroundings. I wanted to send this as it was a very bold attack in the hopes that you might let others know to stay vigilant.”

Alert: Robbery (GUN) at 2150 hrs in the 300 block of 13th Street, SE. Lookout for two B/M’s wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, approximately 5’10 and last seen driving a silver Dodge Caravan.
My video camera (paid for by the city’s program) captured the crime. I emailed the clip to the detective investigating the crime and the neighbor is okay.”
