Photos and words by @Pharipedia. Phari is one of my favorite photographers who contributes to our Instagram. He’s volunteered to share a bit more with us from his adventures around town. Phari lives on Capitol Hill.

Phari writes:

“This beautiful Italianate-style house in the Capitol Hill neighborhood was once the home of Fredrick Douglas. The abolitionist, suffragist, orator, author, and statesman purchased this house when he first moved to Washington, DC in 1871. Douglas lived at 316 A. Street, NE until 1877, before moving across the river to the Anacostia neighborhood and the “Cedar Hill” house which is now a National Historic Site. (more…)

Thanks to Johanna for sharing:

“My husband, Courtney Tate, has been training for IronMan Maryland for more than a year. When it was cancelled due to COVID, we decided to put it on ourselves right here in DC. On Sunday, he started the swim at 7:30 at National Harbor – finally crossing the finish line looking strong more than 14 hours later across the Navy Yard pier bridge, just blocks from our home on Capitol Hill. We got pelted by raw eggs by a stranger who stopped in a car asking for directions at mile 25 – but that didn’t stop him! [Ed. Note: What the hell?!?!]

I arranged for more than 25 aid stations set up along the way including Nat’s Park, the Washington Monument and Haines Point, with more than 30 friends and neighbors volunteering to help keep him hydrated – all in IronTate masks!

And he raised $1,855 (and counting!) for the CDC Foundation’s work to find a vaccine for COVID.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts to report that our last day of service will be Sunday, 9/20. It’s been a great 26-year run, and we’re most proud of the way our management and staff have handled incredible adversity over the last 6 months. Thanks to all for the love and support.” (more…)

Thanks to Mindy for sending on Friday: “This pink ant just appeared this morning. Does anyone have any explanation/ideas? I shall use it as a landmark, “make a left at the hot pink ant”.”
