Thanks to @capitolhilldc for sharing the news from @CHNorm on twitter. Norm writes:

“Talked briefly with Perry Smith, co-owner of Matchbox, who confirmed the rumor that he and his partners will open another place on Barracks row (i.e. in addition to Ted’s Bulletin, opening in a few days). It’ll be located opposite the Fire House, will be a deli, and will be called DC-3”

The flier says:

“Capitol Gem! Featured on the Annual House and Garden tour, this stunning, historic residence exudes Southern charm and old world craftsmanship. Originally built in 1867, and extensively restored by the current owners, this 5 bedroom and 4.5 bath residence offers three levels of gracious living, plus a lower level suite.”

You can find more info here and a virtual tour here.

I know this is technically two house porns for this week but I couldn’t resist. This house just rocketed up the list of homes I covet… What’s your favorite part? It’s yours for $1,599,000.

Ed. Note: I promise that next week I’ll also try and find some affordable properties. If you come across some interesting properties shoot me an email.

If you find yourself on Barracks Row (8th St, SE) in the near future you have to look in the windows of Ted’s Bulletin. There are tons of great details. Even great details from the outside:

They’ll be participating in Taste of 8th which takes place this Sat. from 1-4pm. Tickets ($5 each or 5 for $20) can be purchased at 8th and E Streets, SE. You can see all the participating restaurants here.

Las Placitas is located at 517 8th Street, SE on Barracks Row. I hear that some of the chefs at nearby Barracks Row eateries grab food from this spot. That seems like a pretty high endorsement. You can see their menu here. Any fans? Any must order items?

Woah, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a one level row house before. Do you think it originally had two levels and one was removed later on. I originally though the one level structure and roof deck belonged to the adjacent two level row house but when I took a closer they had two separate addresses.

And nearby is a pretty cool back of a row house. They were both found in Capitol Hill.

While we’re on the subject of carriage houses, I thought these were a couple of interesting examples. These are both from alleys in Capitol Hill. Do you think the addition of windows works on this one:

How ’bout this one (not sure if it was ever technically a carriage house…):

The flier says:

“Seductive, secluded, surrounded, surreal. .. yep all those are usuable. The garish baths are elaborate, sensual & not your usual shower baths, the stairs have bronze railings, Catwaba stone wall the surrounds and stairs. .. Venetian Crystal, handwrought palladium doorways. .. for one or two persons or more intimately.”

You can find more info here and an amazing virtual tour here.

The reader writes:

“ok, here is a completely insane carriage house. I looked at the virtual tour and cannot believe this place is for real. They certainly didn’t do the usual “staging” to make the place bland enough for potential buyers to see themselves in it.”

This virtual tour left me speechless. I’ve been doing these ‘Good Deal or Not?’ posts for a while, but this one really blew me away. Parts of it are definitely a bit insane. Thanks again to the reader for sending it in. It’s yours for $400,000. How long do you think it’ll last and what’s your favorite part of the house?

The Craigslist ad says:

“This is a Gorgeous and Huge 1 bedroom located in the Heart of Capital Hill & is located in a 4 unit. Our building sit on a 10,000 sq ft grass hill making it perfect for pets. Walk to all the restaurants, Starbucks, Blockbuster, bars, Results Gym & Dog Park minutes away from our building. Unit comes with Parking as well and is walking distance to the Metro.”

I’ve recently become a huge fan of this location. Do you think $1945 sounds reasonable for this 1 bedroom?

“Dear PoP,

Any idea what’s going on outside Union Station today? Columbus Circle is full of white tents with what seem to be cameras in them. There are maybe 8 tents.”

Anyone know what’s up?
