We received the first report at 10:09pm last night (Wednesday):

“Seriously, what’s with the explosion sounds (similar to a generator blowing) that we’ve heard several times in Fort Totten? The power has gone out several times again.”

“Same! We are without power near Fort Totten metro – two or three huge booms tonight. Same thing earlier this morning, but luckily power just flickered then.”

“The loud bangs are continuing. In the past the loud bangs came first, then we lost power. Tonight I only heard the bangs after we lost power. Intermittent sirens somewhere nearby.”

“It’s a transformer or some power line on 12th between Allison and Buchanen, it’s been exploding every couple days. Pepco was working on it earlier today after it happened, but just happened again minutes ago” (more…)

Full statement from Councilmember Charles Allen on Partial Release of Body-Worn Camera Footage for Karon Hylton:

“The following is a statement from Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen, Chair of the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety, following yesterday’s partial release of MPD body-worn camera footage:

“I have been in contact with family members of Mr. Hylton multiple times since the incident. They are grieving and in deep pain processing his death. I shared with them my deepest condolences for their loss.

We have more questions and few answers after yesterday’s partial release of two Metropolitan Police Department officers’ body-worn camera video footage of the injury, and later death, of Karon Hylton. What we do know is that he should be alive today, and that how Mr. Hylton was treated, and why he was killed, cannot be disconnected from his race.

The Executive has released some video footage of the incident, and it is important to be clear about what is known and unknown at this time: (more…)

Before moving to its current location in Bethesda, Maryland, Walter Reed Army Medical Center occupied this massive 113 acre campus from 1909 to 2011. During its 102 years, it grew from 80 beds to 5500 rooms while serving tens of thousands of wounded troops and veterans from WWI to Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. Many presidents were treated at this hospital including President Eisenhower who died here. (more…)

Ed. Note: We spoke about some basements getting battered in Edgewood here.

“Dear PoPville,

We moved into our brand new construction house in Brightwood/Manor Park 6 days ago and had some major flooding (2-3 feet of water in the basement). The alley and yard funneled directly down into our basement. The drain in our yard and at the bottom of the stairs leading into our basement did nothing and neither did the sump pump (that had a battery backup). (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Loud explosions in Brightwood Park?

I am bewildered by the large bangs that I’ve been hearing over the last few (many? 2020 is a blur) months, here in Brightwood Park. At first, I assumed this was part of DC’s fireworks “season” but now I am not so sure. The explosions are so loud they rattle the entire house and they happen at all hours of the day. At the times when they happen at in the middle of the night – 2:00 or 3:00 am – I have rushed to the window to see absolutely nothing – no signs of humans or traffic or sounds or anything. (more…)
