1644 North Capitol St. NW

Thanks to a reader for passing on this report on Monday from the Bloomingdale blog:

“This evening, the Bloomingdale Civic Association voted to support the request by Lot 1644’s business owner, Teri Janine Quinn, for a liquor license.”

@Lot1644’s twitter page says:

“A wine & cheese bar opening in Bloomingdale – Washington, DC.”

Ed. Note: We first heard rumors of wine bar in the old borf building now popped up, back in 2011. Can’t believe it might actually happen soon!

Ed. Note 2: It’s humorous to note in the first rumored post we were still discussing the delayed opening at Engine Co. 12

“Here’s the photo of our still missing gnomes, who were discovered missing from our front porch on the morning of May 25. Also pictured (above) is a robot man which also disappeared at the same time and has some sentimental value. The gnome kidnapper also took a rusty lantern. We looked around the neighborhood at the time without any luck. No ransom note was received.

Fast forward to last night and sometime between 8pm and 10.30pm, some gnomes returned to our porch in new attire and a new position (see second photo below). Plus there was one more of them. My four year old suggested a gnome fairy had visited.

Very interested to hear of any other gnome antics, particularly whether anyone has come across our original gnomes (or the robot) which we’d really like to have back.”

“The guy below showed up sometime last night in the rogue garden behind my apartment in Dupont”

Ed. Note: And seriously if you know where the robot or vintage gnomes are above, please return them to the owner due to sentimental value.

Crispus Attucks Park

From an email:

“Please come out for tomorrow’s 11th annual Bloomingdale Community Day & Yard Sale in Crispus Attucks Park.

Crispus Attucks is the 1.3 acre green community park bordered by the unit blocks of U and V Streets NW and the 2000 blocks of North Capitol & 1st Streets in the heart of Bloomingdale.

We currently have over 30 vendors signed up who will be selling everything from jewelry to lightly used home goods. The event will also once again feature the “Taste of Bloomingdale” with a presence from a wide variety of local restaurants. We will even have a band!

Crispus Attucks is operated and maintained by Crispus Attucks Development Corporation, a non-profit organization made up entirely of volunteers. 100% of the proceeds paid by vendors for a space at tomorrow’s event as well as that raised by food sales will directly support park upkeep and maintenance.

We hope to see you tomorrow! You may find a “needful thing”… or even the love of your life. But we’ll never know if you don’t show up!”

A reader writes:

“My friends and I started hearing a ruckus outside of our house, near the corner of 1st and Rhode Island NW, around midnight last night. When we went outside, we discovered that an 18 wheeler had gotten stuck in the intersection while trying to turn, thus completely blocking off the west-bound side of Rhode Island.

Cars were driving backwards, jumping the median, etc. And then you have the USPS truck driver, who not only jumped the median but began zooming down the other side of Rhode Island Avenue…GOING THE WRONG WAY.

No one was hurt. We can all laugh now…”

DC8337907 - Exterior (Front)

This house is located at 1726 Capitol Street, Northwest. The listing says:

“Currently zoned R4 with a popular carryout business on the first level. This beautiful Victorian townhouse is a great opportunity for an investor. Convert to condos, penthouse with a green roof, have your own storefront and live on top, the possibilities are there!!! For this low price it won’t last! Carryout business would consider lease option or vacate. Home needs TLC. Cash preferred. Property Sold as-is.”

Sadly no photos of the interior but this a pretty unique option with Jam Doung in the mix.

It’s going for $550,000.

Seaton 1

“Dear PoPville,

Noticed today there is a new banner on the building on Seaton NW and North Capitol Street. I was previously told it would be ground floor retail and three condos above, but still not sure with the sign. It says 1700 SF of Commercial…… and the first floor is about that square footage, and it says THREE condos. I don’t think Condos are commercial? so it must be first floor retail of some sort open for lease. I suppose they could make two one bedrooms on the second floor, and a nice penthouse on the top floor? The design looks nice, will be good to see the architecture brought back to its old glory. ”
