A Bloomingdale reader sends in Sunday morning:

“Thought it might be of interest: multiple fire and rescue vehicles responded this AM due to floor collapse at 67 V NW. Thank goodness no one was in there or hurt.

It is a rowhouse that is under permit for pop up and pop back: issued a day or two before the new DCRA/zoning regs. According to responding fire dept personnel, no immediate danger / damage to adjoining rowhouses though they taped off surrounding area and front of house.

I suspect but do not know whether the heavy rain was just too much for whatever precautions the developer may have made. The permit to pop up and back this rowhouse is under appeal: I wonder how this incident will affect that?”

Another reader reports:

“With only a permit for interior demo, they spent a rainy Saturday removing the back exterior wall.”

From MPD:

“In the early morning hours of June 25, 2015 5D received a call for a sexual assault in the area of 1st and T Streets. NW. The investigation revealed that an armed suspect approached 2 complainants and forced them into a secluded area where he sexually assaulted both complainants.

Thanks to the outstanding work of the Sexual Assault Unit detectives and members of the Fifth District, the suspect was located and arrested.”

A few folks tweeted us about a helicopter circling Bloomingdale and Eckington around mindnight last night – word on the street is that there was a police chase involving a stolen car with suspects believed to be involved in a number of robberies. They bailed out of the car on Rhode Island Ave and the copter was aiding in the search. I do not know if anyone was caught.

Boundary Stone
112 Rhode Island Ave, NW formerly Jak & Co. Hairdressers between El Camino and Boundary Stone

A commenter guessed it when we first learned that Jak and Company Hairdressers had closed on Rhode Island Ave right next door to Boundary Stone back in April. Now I’m hearing a steady stream of scuttlebutt that it is indeed happening! Very very good news for Boundary Stone fans. Stay tuned for more details when the deal is sealed!

DC Water tweets the wild/sad photo above before last night’s storms:

“#BloomingdaleDC’s catch basins are mostly filled w/plastic bottles so 1 more reason to #drinktap & minimize waste”

Awesome. A reader passes on from the Bloomingdale listserv:

“The Closed Subway at 1540 North Capitol Street NW Planned to Become a Restaurant/Tavern with a Liquor License – from the DCity Smokehouse team”

The Bates Area Civic Association shares more details:

“DCity Smokehouse team plans to open a restaurant/tavern at the former Subway place at 1540 North Capitol Street NW.

The name of the new business is Wicked Bloom.”

They’ve also posted a draft menu here.

DCity Smokehouse also has plans for 2nd and Florida Ave, NW. Stay tuned for updates on both fronts.

“Dear PoPville,

On Saturday evening I was enjoying some drinks with my partner and friends on the patio of Rustik Tavern (around 10:30 pm). Two women were sitting at a table right along the fence, pretty much right in the middle edge of the deck. One of the women’s purse was sitting out on the table, right next to the railing. Although the patio is a bit raised and surrounded by a shoulder-high fence from when you are standing on the sidewalk, as we were sitting there, a young man ran up, hopped up on the ledge to get his arms over the fence and into her purse, grabbed her wallet and phone and then ran off, up T Street. The bag’s owner sprinted after the guy, stopping when he ran into an alley halfway up the block. My boyfriend and friend ran after her, to make sure nothing happened, and then the three of them called the police, who responded quite quickly showing up probably less than 10 min after it all happened. A few minutes prior to the theft, I saw the young man (probably 16-18 years old) walking back and forth in front of the tables, and I realize now he was scoping out what he eventually grabbed.

Luckily no one was hurt (good thing the girl decided to stop chasing him and did not go into the alley), but this and several other similar crimes I heard of happening this weekend are good reminders to keep your bags/valuables out of reach and just to be aware!”
