A reader reported last night:
“My neighbor at Parker Flats (2035 2nd Street, NW) was nearly mugged just now (around 7pm) & barely made it in our gates but MPD won’t file a report even though 3 guys threw themselves at our gate trying to get him. Basically they said that since an actual crime was not committed, there was no reportable action.
McDuffie’s office got back to me this morning with a link so my neighbor could file a complaint with the police about the officers not filing a report. McDuffie’s office expressed concern. [“That’s concerning. Would the near-victim be interested in filing a report with the Office of Police Complaints?”] My neighbor was chased by the 3 guys who then slammed against our big metal gates as he closed them, but wasn’t harmed. Apparently the also tried to get into an Uber while it was at a stop sign w a passenger on our corner (2nd & V Sts NW) but the Uber sped off and they threw rocks at it. They also badgered another resident w/o was walking his dogs.”

1800 block of 1st Street, NW
“Dear PoPville,
I think there was a carjacking of a cab in Bloomingdale last night right at the busy intersection of 1st and Rhode Island NW. It happened in front of the bikeshare/liquor store/Thai place on 1st, around 7:30pm.
I had headphones in, but I heard shouting and noticed an altercation happening in a cab as it rolled forward. It seemed like the cabdriver was on the outside of the cab and there was a person inside trying to get in the driver seat, possibly from the back or the passenger seat. The driverside window was down and the cabdriver was reaching in physically fighting the person inside as the car rolled forward and smashed into a parked car. At that point, the person on the inside threw the car in reverse. The cabdriver still had at least an arm in the window and was dragged backwards and eventually fell on the street. “Crash with multiple injuries 1st St and NY Ave NE. 6 vehicles involved. #DCsBravest transporting 6 Pts, 2 of whom have potentially serious injuries.”

“Earlier today 5D officers responded to a call for a stabbing at 1501 North Capitol St NE. Responding units located an adult male suffering from a stab wound to the lower right abdomen. V1 was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. This case is currently being investigated by Fifth District Detectives. Anyone with information regarding this offense are urged to contact MPD at 202-727-9099 or text us at 50411.”

“The Third District is currently investigating a shooting in the 200 block of W Street NW. An adult male has been transported to an area hospital with a non life threatening gunshot wound to the leg.
Motorists and pedestrians can expect road closures and should avoid the area.

Saw “neighbor reports shoot-out on the 100 block of Bryant Street” on the Bloomingdale blog– from Nextdoor yesterday. Of particular concern is “Police told neighbors that crime scene investigators don’t show up to a crime scene unless there’s a victim,” though a neighbor found a shell casing.
Nothing like being gaslighted (gaslit?) by MPD.”
Ed. Note: The nextdoor report says that there was 5 shots fired from two cars (at each other) around 1:18pm. “Would it really require someone being shot to investigate?”
