“Dear PoPville,

The (photo above) got me thinking about dog poo etiquette. However one feels about dogs, I think we can all agree that leaving dog poo on the ground is just plain wrong, but after that there might be some disagreement. My questions for the community are:

1) Is it ever acceptable to put bagged poo in someone else’s trash can?
2) What about city trash cans? (more…)

Ed. Note: Self checkout was 86’d back in August 2016.

“Dear PoPville,

I am thrilled to report that the Safeway on [1747] Columbia Road NW has its self checkout lanes back after what feels like ages ago that they were removed. I would think the ridiculously long lines that have been forming every day after work hours helped contribute to the decision to bring them back.”

“Dear PoPville,

We wandered into Seasons and Sessions Sunday night and ended up having the greatest experience. I haven’t been in since it reopened, and we had such a great time that I want to make sure more people give these guys some business. We hung out on the second floor, and had great service from the bartender (Bruno), but especially from the chef, Mo. (more…)

From Roofers Union:

“We are turning 5 this February and throwing a week long party to celebrate! Each day, we will feature a few of our favorite dishes from year one along with a different vintage beer, beginning with a 2013 on Monday through a 2019 on Sunday! These are the most epically exciting beers we’ve been able to stash away since we opened! Additionally, we will extend the cellar list to 100 bottles ~ offering each at half price all week long!

Be sure to join us Sunday, 2/10 for our official Anniversary Party. We will provide some of our favorite snacks from the past 5 years and all draft beers will be sold at $6 (even leftover epic vintage options). We could not have made it to this point without the love and support of our guests, this is our opportunity to show our thanks!

Thanks to Bridgett and everyone else for sending the news about a Streets Market coming to the former Metro K grocery store that closed at the end of November.

Streets recently opened up a huge store in NoMa but I have a feeling this will be more like the one in Cleveland Park, which also replaced a beloved, old, grocery store. (more…)

Thanks to a couple readers for sending:

“Just received an email from a commercial broker saying the building on 18th where Idle Time Books is located just sold, dunno what that means for the business but thought you’d like to know.”

In December the Washington Post reported the upcoming sale of the building and business to real estate executive Scott Spector:

“In November, after years of rejecting potential buyers who preferred her real estate to her first-edition copies of Jack Kerouac novels, [Idle Time owner Val] Morgan found what she considered an appropriate suitor — “the bookstore savior,” as she refers to him, bursting into a raspy laugh.

Spector, in a telephone interview, said he’s contemplating myriad changes, including selling new books along with the used, opening a cafe in the shop, and creating space for readings, lectures and community meetings.”

STAY TUNED.

In February we noted that the Phoenix was no konger rising at the former Meskerem space in Adams Morgan. Thanks to the Adams Morgan BID for letting us know who’s taking over the space – Friendship Macaron Cafe.  Stay tuned for an opening date.
