The old Caribou Coffee spot on 18th Street in Adams Morgan has been vacant for ages. It seems insane to me because this is such a prime location. Many folks have probably walked by this space dozens of times. It’s not a huge space so I’m curious what you think would work in this location. What would work is not necessarily a dream retail outlet, rather I’m curious what you think would realistically be successful in this spot. Any ideas?

And man am I drunk. Seriously I can’t read any of my notes at the moment. Tryst launched its new cocktail menu Thurs. evening. And it was great launch. I tried a few but by far my favorite was the “Demolition Derby (up) A riff on the classic Derby – gold rum, fresh lime juice and honey-spice syrup”. Beverage Director David Fritzler (pictured above), when pressed to recommend three favorites, suggested the Bitter Ex, Winona Ryeder and Ward 1. After the jump check out more photos and full list of cocktails. (more…)

A few readers have written in mentioning that the new CVS has opened up on Columbia Road just east of 18th Street, NW. I believe the old one across the street has closed so it’ll be interesting to monitor that space to see if anything interesting goes in. And to continue the less exciting news of that stretch of Columbia a T-Mobile store has also recently opened. Why do you think that stretch of Columbia (east of 18th) has a hard time attracting interesting retail/restaurants?

Bukom Cafe is located at 2442 18th Street, NW. I know they have great live music here from time to time but I never realized that they are a restaurant as well. Has anyone eaten here? Recommend any dishes? Or is it best to just go for drinks and music?

Back in August I mentioned that Locolat Cafe (18th and Florida Ave, NW) had applied for a liquor license. Looks like they got it! So it got me thinking about Belgian beer. Personally I love Stella, Leffe and Hoegarden. A friend of mine loathes Stella. If I had to pick an absolute favorite I’d vote Hoegarden. I’m wondering if there are other haters of Stella? And in general what is your favorite Belgian beer?

The flier says:

“2 blocks from the Columbia Heights metro, at the entrance to Adams Morgan. Walk to Target, Best Buy, Giant and many more retail and restaurants. Live in a one of a kind building built in the 20’s with original hardwood floors, high ceilings, large bedrooms, marble, tile and balcony! Building is featured in the “Best Addresses” book.”

You can find more info here.

Sadly there are no photos but I’m intrigued by this property due to the price and location. I think the location is terrific given the proximity to Adams Morgan, Mt. Pleasant and Columbia Heights. The studio is going for $204,900 and a one bedroom is going for $367,900. Sound reasonable?

Does $2700 sound reasonable for a unique 2 bedroom loft in this location?

This was a pretty quick turn around since the coming soon signs went up in October. Sunday evening there was a soft opening and I was able to snap some photos.

In addition to wine they will also be offering cured meats and cheeses:

And very soon they will also be offering sandwiches. You’ll be able to find more information on their Web site here soon. They’ll be open Mon. – Thurs. 11am – 9pm; Fri. 11am – 10pm; Sat. 10am – 10pm; and Sun. 10am – 8pm. More photos after the jump. (more…)

Potter’s House is located at 1658 Columbia Road NW. We took a look back in August 2008. A reader recently writes:

“This past Saturday I walked down to Tryst to do some reading and could not find a single seat – understandable since it’s a nice location to have a drink, people watch, and socialize. After doing two “laps” around trying to find a seat, I eventually left and started my cold walk back home. One my way, I passed The Potter’s House on Columbia Rd., and figured, why not, I’ll give it a try. I’m really glad I did! There are no baristas and it’s not quite the “scene” that Tryst is, but it’s warm, relatively empty, clean, and cozy.”

Anyone other fans out there?

This rental is located at 1952 Calvert Street, NW.

Does $2099 per month sound reasonable for this 2 bed/1.5 bath?
