Thanks to a reader for passing on from ANC 1C’s Wilson Reynolds:

“An update on the agenda for the Wednesday, September 6 meeting of our ANC. There has been discussion inside the ANC on bringing forward to the community a proposal to close 18th St. (and by that I mean the 2300/2400 blocks) to transit traffic on weekend nights.

The creation of a ‘pedestrian mall’ on weekend nights is not new. Veterans of the 18th St. reconstruction project in 2012 will remember well this idea being brought forth. And also will remember the opposition expressed by so many in the community of being forced to deal with the displacement of all that traffic on to the side streets of our neighborhood. Believe me, as a resident of the 2300 block of Champlain St, I get it, I have seen the lines of cars, heard the horns, seen it for myself. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

This Adams Morgan Girl living in the shadow of Pence’s daily helicopter flights, having grown tired of looking to the sky with disdain, has taken her voice to the mountaintop of rowhouse roofdom. I call all like-minded Washingtonians to join suit in spreading the message from one rooftop to the next, all across our fine Swamp.”

2104 18th Street, NW

From a press release:

“The Feldman Group of Marcus & Millichap announced today the sale of 2104 18th Street NW in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The 2,700-SF asset sold for $1,275,000.

Josh Feldman, First Vice President of Investments, of the Feldman Group exclusively listed and sold the property on behalf of the owner. The asset was purchased by Foxhall Partners, who plan to reposition the property. “The new owners signed the retail tenant to a new 10-year lease, and plan to renovate the two residential units as they roll over,” explains Feldman. The seller had owned the property for 34 years at the time of the sale, and leased the retail unit to the popular Meeps Vintage Clothing in 2006. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

There are two embassies, the Cuban Embassy and the Lithuanian Embassy, that are located next to each other on 16th Street NW but also have have the backs of their properties along Mozart Place NW. Their parts of the property along Mozart Place are completely overgrown with weeds and grass; almost a third of the sidewalk is overtaken by them. This also contributes to a horrendous rat problem on the street and I’ve seen rats scurrying in and out of these overgrown areas. Dead rats are a common sight – last week, I saw the remains of 3 dead rats on the street alone.

I’ve seen some posts about dealing with private property owner’s overgrown yards but haven’t seen any for dealing with embassies. Any suggestions, if there are any?

Back of the Cuban Embassy on Mozart Place NW and the back of the Lithuanian Embassy on Mozart Place NW.”
