Robert Cunningham

“Dear PoPville,

Can we promote this GoFundMe for the family of Robert Cunningham, the metro employee killed at Potomac Ave metro station? I think we should try to go well above the donation goal…”

The GoFundMe says:

“Metro customers and employees are invited to support the family of a true hero, Metro employee Robert G. Cunningham. Mr. Cunningham lost his life trying to protect others during a senseless shooting (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’m emailing about the people involved in a headline from mid-January: 2 Woman Shot (reportedly “in their Uber”). I happened to know one of the two women, Claire, and I hoped you would consider posting her GoFundMe to help support her recovery. She is dealing with several injuries as a result of one bullet entering and exiting her body several times while she was riding in an Uber with a friend. As senseless as the violence in this city (and country) can be, I firmly believe in the DC community’s ability to uplift and support one another. It would be much appreciated if you could spread the word!”

“Dear PoPville,

Reaching out on behalf of the dedicated school garden coordinator at Brightwood elementary in Ward 4 in a high-need community. He built the much-needed Brightwood Elementary school garden, putting in many hours of his free time, after working in the classroom all day, to provide a teaching garden so these children will have learning experiences like children attending prosperous schools do.

The garden makes a difference. In addition to the garden produce, the garden also hosts a twice-monthly food distribution of pantry items, thru a grant, to Brightwood families.

While Rogelio gives of his time freely and has built tremendous community support. He needs financial contributions (see below) but this is a community with limited means. Hoping that a few contributions from readers can help Brightwood reach the goal of raising $8000. for Rogelio and his family.

Here is the GoFundMe started by Brightwood school staff and community: (more…)

Thanks to a friend for passing on the GoFundMe for Kimmy and her family:

“Kimmy, Timmy, and their kids need our help.

A year and some change ago, Kimmy was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a comprehensive treatment regime, but still did a better job of keeping up with our friend’s group workouts than any of the rest of us, doing an increasing number of pushups and burpees without ever using fatigue from chemo as the viable excuse that it would have been. Kimmy beat the cancer, and went back for every checkup and followup, every exam and scan, to make sure she was still doing well. And she was. Until she wasn’t. Kimmy’s cancer came back in a rare and aggressive way. She dealt with it quickly and responsibly, and is fighting the good fight.

Thank you for your consideration, and for anything that you’re able to contribute to this effort. Supporting our dear friends and their family during their time of turmoil and need is the most important thing we can think to ask anyone to contribute.”

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to let you know that on December 7, local art students in Southeast DC will be unveiling their art designs on limited edition charity tote bags that will be available exclusively at Lidl’s Skyland store in DC. All sales from the bags, selling for $3.99 each, will be donated to Martha’s Table and will go to support the Joyful Food Markets, no-cost pop-up markets working to increase food access in more than 50 schools in Wards 7 & 8.”

“Dear PoPville,

On Saturday, December 17th the Refugee Response team from the Washington Diocese Episcopal Churches will be hosting a celebration for 600 people, two-thirds of which are children. In addition to a fun celebration filled with familiar traditions (mostly from Venezuela), they want to provide gifts for each child. If you’d like to help spread the cheer amongst these sweet children, the Amazon wishlist is here.
