“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to share a fundraiser that I’ve organized to raise funds to prevent and cure breast cancer! I was diagnosed in 2019 at just 34 years old and finished treatment in 2020 (RIGHT before Covid hit). Unfortunately, this is all too common – breast cancer is now the most common cancer worldwide, and I’m dedicated to doing what I can to end this terrible disease.During the first year of the fundraiser in 2022, we raised $9,205, and with donation matches, the grand total was $20,440!

I’m hosting an in-person benefit bingo night called “Boobs for Bingo” THIS Wednesday, October 19 at the new Whitlow’s in Shaw. It’s going to be a fun night of bingo with gift card prizes donated by local businesses. Tickets can be purchased here.

“After a COVID hiatus, the giant, blowout Rummage Sale at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church is back this month. [Saturday, October 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m]

We’ll have kitchenwares, jewelry, men’s/women’s and children’s clothing. All leftover items will be donated to the guests of our food kitchen, Charlie’s Place, and other neighboring nonprofits and shelters.

A lot of people in the greater community seem to rely on our discounted and gently-used items.

Our church is on Connecticut Ave, just north of the Dupont Metro, across from the Washington Hilton.

Last week, a suicide bomb at a school in Kabul killed more than 50 students, mostly girls, who were studying for college entrance exams. Sultana is trying to raise money for their families via a Go Fund Me, but her limited network makes it hard to find folks who can contribute. (more…)
