So, I’ve been thinking about how much I love the humble tuna melt sandwich. It is a God damn delicious sandwich. I dare say perfection (especially if you add some bacon in there.) This is possibly the most underrated delicious sandwich in the world. Well second after the Volkswagen of sandwiches – the PB and J. I digress – the tuna melt got me thinking about things that are underrated in general. For example – last week was teacher appreciation week. And it really did make me think about our teachers and those who care for our kids – damn – we are very lucky to have some phenomenal teachers. Not to mention the kindest guards and custodial staff. And of course we’ve spoken a bit about the great crossing guards. And I know it’s not universal but the sanitation workers who do my block are not only hard working but they are nice as can be!! The bus driver who honks at the kids on my block every single time he passes is the freaking best!! TRUTH. Honestly, it’s the little things like that, that make it all worth it. Alright, alright, it doesn’t have to be a District employee and it doesn’t have to be a sandwich. It just has to be underrated. What’s on your list?

Official word has finally come down on Dolcezza Gelato’s first location closing for good:

“It’s official, we’ve outgrown our Georgetown store. We started making gelato here in 2004. It’s where we found ourselves, new friends and experimented with flavors and brews. It’s bittersweet that we need more space to grow. Thank you, thank you for 14 years of fun.”

So with sweets on mind – where’s your favorite spot for a sweet after dinner? Hell we’re adults, perhaps your favorite spot for dinner?

These 90 degrees days have put the beach on my mind. So let’s make this a two parter – what’s your favorite beach within driving distance of D.C.? How long is the drive? Where do you stay, rented house or hotel/motel? About how much does it cost? And just for fun what’s the best beach you’ve ever been to anywhere in the world?

This is my take on Amanda Kolson Hurley’s fun question on twitter:

So let’s do the PoPville version which is of course which neighborhoods do you daydream about moving to? In addition to my list above, I’d add Bloomingdale as well. I can’t believe I forgot Bloomingdale (and I only left off Petworth because I’ve already lived there.) Anyway, what neighborhoods would you pick? And of course if you want to answer Amanda’s original question – go for it!

Ed. Note: We had a similar discussion about 4 years ago. It’ll be interesting to see how our answers have changed or won’t change since that time.

OK here’s another question reflecting my own personal battles. I’ve been rebuffed a number of times – so I’m hoping the poll results help me out in my fifth attempt to get some bumper stickers going. For those who are anti-bumper sticker – why no love?

For those who do have bumper stickers on their car – what type do you have? Political? Humor? Music/Bands? Beer? Places you’ve been/travel? Pets? What are your favorites? Do you have a limit, like 5 or less or the more the merrier?

The smartest thing I’ve done in a long time is make and more importantly stick to a New Year’s resolution. I decided I’d no longer watch tv/netflix during the week and would read instead. I’ve been reading a lot of non fiction and given the insanity all around us, now I’m ready to move onto to a thoroughly engrossing page turner. Without further ado, what’s the best fiction you’ve recently read?

So, in years past some folks have been outraged whenever anyone used AdMo for Adams Morgan. Have things changed in 2018 – is AdMo now a legit abbreviation? How ’bout CoHi for Columbia Heights? To the polls!!

I can’t believe I forgot to mention this when we spoke about the “death waiting to happen”.

AdMo Heights’ website says:

“Brand new Adams Morgan apartments opening SUMMER 2018!

With smart and stylish attention to detail, AdMo Heights offers luxury living paired with the lifestyle of the diverse and energetic Adams Morgan. A Northwest DC neighborhood in the heart of it all, where you can explore everything this dynamic neighborhood has to offer. (more…)

This week’s question is inspired by the press release below. Hello Kitty super fans take note!! So I always love learning what some folks collect. Like you go into their kitchen and you see a thousand cow magnets or something like that. How in the hell did you get started collecting cow magnets?!? When I was a kid growing up, I used to collect baseball cards and autographs. I was fanatical and spent every penny on them. Besides some of the autographs they’re pretty much worthless today hahaha but it was fun at the time! So what things did you/do you collect? What got you interested in collecting them?

And regarding that press release – THE HELLO KITTY CAFE TRUCK – NEXT STOP: BETHESDA, MARYLAND! (more…)
