Watch video at your own peril. My head started hurting after 11 seconds…

Umm. Well. Ok?

From an email:

Opening to the public on Friday, Jan. 28 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, The Washington Auto Show offers a 10-day showcase of hot cars, sports stars and even the apple of New Jersey’s eye: Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi (in the wake of her New Year’s Eve ball drop on the Jersey Shore!). Plus, Dr. Guy and his wacky friends are sure to pop by to provide a healthy dose of humor.

The largest public show in Washington, The Washington Auto Show is produced by the Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association (WANADA). Founded in 1917, the Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association (WANADA) represents more than 225 franchised new vehicle dealers and 75 kindred-line members (related vendors) in the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland.

You can find more info about the show including buying tickets here.

Since we’ve been on a bit of Scandinavian kick here, I thought I’d take the opportunity to share this gift from Norway at Union Station.

And don’t forget to check out the “Norweigan Holiday” train set nearby:

Thanks to all for sending word/uploading photos of last night’s Christmas Tree lighting in CH Plaza. It is my understanding that the tree was donated and the event was organized by the District Church. The tree was lit last night at 6pm. For those that braved the cold – how was the event?

“Dear PoP,

Do you or other readers know any details about the Tree Lighting today? I was lucky enough to get tickets. How long will the event last? Any tips for navigating the crowds? Can i get there at 4:30 and find a space?”

Anyone who went last year or a previous year have any advice? How long do the performances last? Regarding transit, personally if I were driving – I’d park very far away though if at all possible I’d bundle up and walk to metro.

Dr. Gridlock from Washington Post says:

The event is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday on the Ellipse, south of the White House. According to the District Department of Transportation, the following streets will be closed beginning about 4:30 p.m. through the end of the event:
— 15th Street from Pennsylvania/E Street NW to Constitution Avenue.
— 17th Street from New York Avenue NW to Constitution.

Parking will be restricted on 15th and 17th streets from Pennsylvania to Constitution from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Dr. Gridlock advises that the best best for those with tickets to the ceremony is to take Metrorail to McPherson Square, Farragut North, Farragut West, Federal Triangle or Metro Center.”

You can see all the performers here and you can also catch the broadcast online here.

And for those that can’t make it/didn’t get tickets – catch the Columbia Heights Christmas Tree Inaugural Lighting on Monday. From an email:

“The inaugural Columbia Heights Christmas tree will be lit on Monday, December 13. Everyone is invited to this neighborhood event!

Performances from local school choirs! Hot chocolate! Holiday cheer!

Where: Columbia Heights Plaza, 14th and Kenyon Streets NW
When: Monday, December 13, 6:00pm”

From the Adams Morgan BID:

The Adams Morgan Partnership Business Improvement District (BID) and Adams Morgan Main Street Group are pleased to invite everyone to join us for Festivus for the Rest of Us 2010 on Saturday December 11 at 1 PM at the plaza at the intersection of 18th Street and Columbia Road, NW (in front of BB&T Bank). Back due to popular demand, this is the THIRD year for Festivus in Adams Morgan.

The kiosk in the plaza (normally used for posting flyers) has been transformed into a Festivus Pole and at 1 PM THIS SATURDAY there will be an airing of grievances performed by Tom Sherwood of NBC4 News and also a columnist in the Current Newspapers. Throughout each day’s airing of grievances, there will be a presentation of feats of strength.

All I have to say regarding the feats of strength is – you’re a dead man Mr. Sherwood. You might want to leave your tie at home. I’ll see you Saturday.
