From a press release:

“Marriott Marquis Washington, DC, opening May 1, announces five Americana-inspired dining experiences for the District’s soon-to-be-largest hotel. The varied food and beverage establishments, located on the hotel’s ground floor, will further position the property as a brand-new social hub for its vibrant downtown Shaw neighborhood.

Marriott Marquis Washington, DC will debut: Anthem, casual dining restaurant; The Dignitary, an upscale lounge; High Velocity, a high-tech sports bar; a dramatic, high-design Lobby Bar; and a specialty restaurant (to be announced). The hotel’s culinary vision will be helmed by Executive Chef Matthew Morrison, a DC native who was most recently executive chef at The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner, Virginia. The hotel’s dining experiences will feature fresh, seasonal menus sourced from both local and Mid-Atlantic purveyors as well as the hotel’s on-site rooftop garden.

More details on the restaurants/bars after the jump. (more…)

@TheShayDC tweets us and writes on their facebook page:

“As you know, The Shay will be a dual-building community along 8th & Florida in Shaw. Here’s a first look at the East building.

The Shay will be designed to evoke an industrial past. It will display exposed concrete, expansive glass window walls and industrial detailing. Community amenities will include parking, bike storage, conference areas, a dog washing station, resident lounge with a bar, pool table and media center, swimming pool, two landscaped roof decks, and more.”

Thanks to a reader for sending:

“Went to the ANC meeting last night. Douglass development was there to discuss their plans. 3 floors of retail (1 of which would be underground). Apartments/condos on top. 32 Total units? No parking. Possibly a zipcar spot. Studios – 2 bedrooms. Earliest they would break ground would be February 2016, but this is not likely they said. Will be later.

9730 sq ft of retail on the largest floor. Also, this will have a stone facade, Not brick. This is the old HSDC building.

We knew it was coming but it’s finally official – Washington Business Journal reports the raze permit was issued Friday and:

“The District issued a permit to ICG 16th Street Associates to construct a nine-story office building at 16th and Eye streets NW.”

As of Saturday a crane was already in place. Though there were some admirers and many detractors – it’s time to say goodbye.

Rendering of 3707 14th Street, NW via Zusin Development

Back in April ’13 when we spoke about the old C&K Motel getting demoed a reader commented:

“I spoke with the developer the day they were demolishing the building. He said 20 condos. He said the retail space on the 1st floor would be a 7-11. He said they were improving the neighborhood. A 7-11 sounds like a bad improvement to me, I hope it doesn’t hurt the local corner stores.”

Elevation DC now confirms:

“Zusin is in the process of selecting a contractor to build out the new structure, which will be four floors of condominiums above a 7-11 convenience store.”

Stay tuned.

3707 14th Street, NW is located across the street from Red Derby and the soon to be Lyman’s Tavern and Taqueria Habanero. So while the 7-11 is less than exciting, there’s still a couple more good things coming to the area.

Here’s what the space looked like at the start of demo back in April:

There have been chain link fences surrounding this development on the 900 block of 12th Street, NE just south of Florida Ave for as long as I can remember. I finally see the fences came down and some landscaping was going on out front when I walked by. Units are now for sale too – the one at 923 12th Street, NE says:

“5-LEVELS AND NEARLY 4000 SQ/FT OF LIVING SPACE IN THE HOT H STREET CORRIDOR. FEATURES INCLUDE 5 BR, 5BA, GOURMET KITCHEN WITH GRANITE & ELECTROLUX, HUGE FINISHED BASEMENT, SEPARATE LAUNDRY ROOM, PARKING, GREEN ROOF WITH PATIO AND SPECTACULAR CAPITOL VIEWS & MUCH, MUCH MORE. Sadly their are no interior photos listed.
