My sister is coming in town to visit in February and she recently began the Whole 30 (more power to her). [“The Whole30 is a 30-day fad diet that emphasizes whole foods and during which participants eliminate sugar, alcohol, grains, legumes, soy, and dairy from their diets.”] Since I’ve never had to look into this, does anybody know any healthy restaurants in DC that are Whole 30 friendly or have a major focus on fresh veggies, fruit, and meats?

I live on the 1400 block of Chapin St NW and am frustrated and sickened by the amount of litter people throw out of parked cars on the street that’s strewn around the curbs and sidewalks. Any suggestions from others about how to get people to stop throwing their trash on the streets? There’s a trash can on the corner of 14th so people wouldn’t have to go far to a trash can. Calling upon neighbors who want a clean street to clean up the trash would help – but only for a couple of days. In 2 days, we’d be right back to the same state of trash everywhere. Is it ridiculous to think signs would work?

Was out Saturday morning in DuPont and was stopped at a red light when I saw someone trying to carefully balance a paper shopping bag full of trash on top of an already overflowing trash can. When that proved impossible, the person put it on the sidewalk next to the trash can and walked away.
I thought that was odd, then I noticed that every trash can I drove by in Dupont was overflowing with what looks like trash bags filled with household trash. Is this a thing? Is this due to the cold or do people always do this? Have I been a sucker all these years dragging my trash can and recyclables to the curb every week? So. Many. Questions.
But seriously, do people really put their household trash in public trash cans?”

Below is the ad and he had a follow up e-mail. I guess the learning point here is generally if it is too good to be true, its too good to be true. At one point he had even linked the person’s facebook page for me. What lead me to research was the fact that he was using an @aol.com email address, I guess a pretty obvious give away.
Any way that you can spread the word to get people to avoid this would be appreciated.
I e-mailed the real Barak Sky. He has a g-mail and this guy is using an aol account (who uses AOL anymore).”

I’m wondering if readers out there have any suggestions for a good neighborhood or even building to live in that has easy access to Virginia. We currently live in a row house in Petworth, and really really do not want to leave, but I have a new job out in Tysons Corner. I would love to have a commute under 30-45 min, preferably by metro. We do not want to live in Virginia, and we are also really worried about losing the Petworth neighborhood vibe we’ve come to love (i.e., people saying hello to each other, knowing your neighbors, etc) So… Any suggestions? Are folks in DC subscribing to Movie Pass? Are you finding that it’s worth it (“only $9.95 per month”) and that the theaters are not confused by it? A friend in LA was highly recommending it but it looks like there is less coverage in the DC area (i.e. no Landmark theaters).”

I am looking for info on an individual condo unit owner’s rights against a neighbor, fellow condo owner, who is knowingly renting to a hoarder and refusing to call or allow the HOA to call an exterminator or clean up. The smell emanating from the rented out unit is infiltrating the hallways and there are apparently several dead rats in the unit at least.
The condo owner lives in a building with no fire escapes (grandfathered in), so they feel their neighbor is being willfully negligent and posing a fire and health and safety threat to the other owners. Unlike surrounding counties, however, it appears DC doesn’t seem to have a hoarding task force in place with clear laws regarding condo owners rights with regards to these types of health and safety threats.
Any information would be immensely helpful.”

I leased an apartment in a large building last year for $1450 a month. I recently received notice that my rent is increasing to $1495, in accordance with DC rent control procedures. However, the same building is currently advertising units identical to mine for $1275 + one month free rent (so about $1160). I plan to approach management about signing a new lease at this lower rent (I’m month-to-month as of next January) but was wondering if the Popville hive-mind has any thoughts on whether I have any legal basis to insist my rent better reflect market value. Does DC law prohibit rent increases where market value is clearly lower than the current rent? Any thoughts would be appreciated!”

Last night my husband and I were walking home near Columbia and Harvard and I noticed a woman kicking something down the street. As we turned the corner I realized she was attacking a baby mouse (or rat…either way this thing was a baby). She was chasing it up and down the sidewalk kicking it every chance she could get until the mouse stopped moving. I couldn’t believe it. The way she kept going after it seemed vicious and cruel.
