“Dear PoPville,
What D.C. apartment buildings do readers liked the most? Which building have the most/best features? It’d be interesting to see what people like when I go on the hunt in a few months. Thanks!”

“Dear PoPville,
What cellphone carrier do you prefer on a cost basis? I’ve recently finished paying off my phone with Verizon and am now shopping around. Looking for a new carrier/plan that won’t charge a ridiculous amount for unlimited data like Verizon did. Wondering if making the jump to T-Mobile or another would be worth it.”

“Dear PoPville,
I’m wondering if you have heard reports from other readers about new action from DCRA (motto: doing our best to frustrate DC homeowners) that would essentially mean the end of popups across the city. I live in a rowhouse in a historic district in the city and have spent over a year working on a partial third story addition to my home. Typical with historic district requirements, the third floor addition was to be a partial third floor- set back from the front so that it was not visible from the street. This was a modest addition- not some developer monstrosity and we had the support of our neighbors, historic and our ANC. (more…)

“Dear Popville,
Yesterday I received a letter in the mail from Enterprise Rental Car informing me I received a moving citation from the District while I rented a car nearly two months ago. The letter includes the ticket invoice number and the location of occurrence, however the location is only indicated by numbers. I never received any direct notice from the District but through the rental agreement, Enterprise is “immediately paying the invoice amount due on your behalf.” As a result, I have forfeited my right to contest the ticket. I’m going to call Enterprise for an explanation, but I wondered if there was another way to get more information from the District about what the ticket was specifically for and where the incident occurred.”

“Dear PoPville,
My husband and I had a tenant move into our English basement unit about six weeks ago. We live upstairs in the main unit with our four week old baby. Unfortunately, it’s become evident that our tenant is a daily marijuana smoker and our entire house now smells like marijuana everyday including our daughters nursery. My husband let her know about the situation and she said she’d stop but she hasn’t. We can’t go on with this, it is a real health hazard for our daughter, what are our best options? Unfortunately, we trusted a realtor with the lease and he overlooked putting a no-smoking clause in there. We are obviously very distressed by this. Any legal advice/experience with this helpful.
Thank you!”
Ed. Note: Back in the day we spoke about when an elderly neighbor’s pot smoke was also getting into someone’s apartment and in May 2016 “we’re pretty sure babies should not be exposed to pot smoke”.

“Dear PoPville,
I’m trying to apply for a BBL for my short-term rental- (additional bedrooms on Airbnb)
The licensing department of dcra told me that I need to go through the following steps: register my ssn with Tax and Revenue, Have a Clean Hands Certificate, and get a Certificate of Occupancy. The problem is that dcra does not issue CofO for single family homes. They told me that I can apply for a Home Occupation Permit- but that will require a “change of use” of the property to a Bed and Breakfast. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I found a set of keys on H street NE and stared at them, torn, for a while. Do I leave them there in case the person comes back or retraces their steps? Do I take them and try to find the person? What does the PoPville world think is the best route here?
In other news, I have a set of keys that does not belong to me. If you lost some keys and want them back, tell me about them at [email protected]
(Spoiler alert: I took the keys. I left my info with two semi-identifiable locations on their keychain but no callbacks yet)”

“Dear PoPville,
What do you do when you see a used needle on the side of the road? I pick up trash around the block where I live on Georgia Ave. I saw a used needle on one block. I don’t want to put a sanitation worker at risk by putting into a regular trash can. (I’m not a medical professional and don’t know what it was used for.) “

“Dear PoPville,
What are the best sites for selling used, but higher quality furniture in DC? I’ve gotten nothing but scams and fake inquiries through Craigslist. Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks!”

“Dear PoPville,
Wanted to reach out to the popville community to see if anyone knows if there are homeless shelters in the area that use amazon wish lists or other online shopping lists to direct those looking to contribute? I’d like to send a few items along when I can, but would prefer to buy things they need.”
