“Dear PoPville,

I am looking for a new mattress – the “bed in a box” isn’t working so I may need a coil mattress. I am high risk for covid and don’t have a vehicle, so that unfortunately means I would need a delivery situation.

I’m wondering if folks have thoughts about which stores they’ve used recently and what experiences they’ve had with covid safety during that process?”

“Dear PoPville,

One of my neighbors organizes a concert in their frontyard, once or twice a week. At first, I thought it was really cute and enjoyed it. Over time, the thing expanded into a full-fledged concert, with microphones, amplifiers, loud speakers, singers, a band, and it typically goes on for 8-10 hours, roughly between lunch time and 10pm. “Dear PoPville,

Looking for help from the community as far as a shower head/in line filter folks can recommend; Ive lived in the same condo in NW for 10+ years, but for some reason lately DC water has been wreaking havoc on my skin and hair and I’m tired of the residue, itchiness etc. My understanding is that it might be due to the chloramine or chlorine used to treat municipal water.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!”

“Dear PoPville,

We live in a row house and share a brick party wall with our neighbor. We’ve already had some issues with his property causing issues on ours (not going into detail here, but essentially upkeep failures). All that’s to say we already don’t have a great relationship. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

It seems like most food pantries are requesting cash donations, which makes sense. But does anyone have advice on where I can donate a few bags of non-perishable items (pasta, beans, vegetables, etc.)? I’m moving long-distance and clearing out my pantry; I’d hate for it to go to waste with so many in need at the moment.”

“Are there some resources for how we can support the homeless population? I’m wondering whether there are ways to support them that don’t require close contact with others. My boyfriend is high risk so we avoid most human contact.”

“Dear PoPville,

Was wondering if others have had to deal with the tricky situation of moving out during the pandemic. My landlord (understandably) wants to show the apartment, but also mentioned wanting to do open houses — seriously?

I’ve also offered to make videos, and I’m not wholly opposed to showing for individuals, but was just curious how others have navigated this situation. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Today I went to a national oil change garage for a regular oil change. After I gave them my basic information, they told me the wait would be 2 hours, so I decided to go home and come back another day. 30 minutes later someone at the shop saying that during my oil change (that I didn’t have), they noticed a bunch of problem in my car (giving my car’s make, model, and year) and I was going to need to come back in for a list of repairs that cost over $500.

No one ever looked at my car. No one changed my oil. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Hoping someone might have some ideas….

There has been a strange plane flying circles over NW DC/Bethesda down to 395 & back for the last 20 minutes or so, I’ve been watching it on Flight Rader & it’s stayed between 5,000-5,300 ft.

It’s passed within hearing distance of me about 6 times.

In any event, since it’s in restricted airspace & I don’t see/hear any fighter jets chasing it, I have to assume it’s Gov’t, but who & for what reason.”

“Dear PoPville,

On a walk this weekend I noticed a copper looking tag/plaque way up high in the tall tree in the triangle park at Mass Ave/35th St NW/Fulton St NW, just south of St Sophia’s. I’ve walked by here many, many times before and never noticed it, but the sun was hitting at just the right angle for it to flash in the corner of my eye. I thought at first it was a mylar balloon or something similar caught in the branches, but getting as close as I could it’s obviously a large metal tag or plate of some sort (about license plate size?) zip-tied to one of the boughs.
